The root ball of both plants were still moist when I opened the package. No browning of the foliage what so ever. I potted them right away and so we will see what they become in the future. The plants did arrive together in the same package but wrapped seperatly. They also arrived 13 days sooner than expected which I am grateful for because I was worried about them not being watered or potted for so long. They came from California and I am in New Mexico if that helps. They were sent with a little sheet that says how to pot them and what to do afterwards. Basic care kind of thing. On the other side was a few Bonsai designs and definitions for those who are using them for this purpose. The paper also stated that the seedlings are 1-2 years of age. I did tie sewing string very lightly around the black pine to get it to stand erect. So far I am happy with both trees. I do believe I will be ordering from this nursery in the future provided that the trees don't turn out diseased. I don't think that they will. Does the Johnsteen company sell gardenia trees?** A: Amazon mixed two plant listings together into one. Jonsteen does not currently sell Gardenia, nor have we ever. Thank you for being so observant and taking the initiative to double check. **Q: Should I plant this in a pot and leave it in the house for the first winter to let it get a little bigger?** A: 3-5 galon, plastic pot, soil that is well ammended for excellent drainage (1/3 perlite 2/3 simple potting mix), no catch tray beneath the pot, let all excess water flow away. These guys are sensitive to being in wet soils for too long so your soil mix is very important. When watering you want to saturate the soil then let it dry down almost completely throughout the entire pot. You can over winter your seedling in a garage, unheated greenhouse, basement, screen porch. Don't bring it into your nice warm house...it will not like it. Out of doors, you just want to be sure that the roots will not freeze, and locate for protection from wind...cold is fine, snow (an insulator) is fine, but cold + wind/wind chill is too much. **Q: What type of potting soil should i have ready for my giant sequoia before it arrives?** A: Almost any potting soil is fine. Also add about a third top soil. These are very thirsty, don't let it dry out. I would start with a two gallon pot. Leave in pot at least 18 months to allow the roots to become well established. Mine are about 30ft and took 9 years. The longer their in the ground the faster they grow. Love my trees. **Q: Do you combine shipping for multiple trees?** A: The first item ships at a flat rate. You have to pay attention to it and monitor. Their was a few times I thought I killed it for sure 100% brown dead, but it came back. Its been about 7 months, I've had to prune several dead branches but it's alive. Have had it under a grow light for 12 hours a day.
