Is the water heated in the plastic reservoir or after it leaves the reservoir?  Does hot water contact any plastic as it travels to the shower head?

No, the water is not heated in the Tritan plastic reservoir. Water does pass through plastic components as it goes through to the shower head, and the shower head is plastic. All parts where contact is made are BPA Free.

Question 2

My carafe has broken and a replacement is not available. The company refuses to answer emails. Only alternative is to buy a whole other unit. Any sug?

Does carafe base keep the coffee hot?

It will keep it at a warm drinking level for 20 minutes.  Some reviewers  I’ve read have said they don’t like that it doesn’t keep the coffee VERY hot, but the idea is to keep it warm without making it bitter. Many regular coffee makers have heater functions that last a lot longer, but the heater function on this lasts only 20 minutes, with not reset.  The goal of this maker is a very nice, smooth coffee taste, so it’s not designed to make scalding coffee or to keep it endlessly warm. Basically, if you are someone that is ok with either thermos-warmed coffee leftovers, or reheating coffee in the microwave, you’d probably be better off with a cheaper conventional style coffee maker with a thermal carafe.
