Bought this to test my head gasket. Easy to use. Easy to follow instructions. Text is clear and works just as it’s supposed to. Figured out why my car was overheating. Blown head gasket.

Used this to confirm what was pretty certain, a head gasket leak. Sure takes the guesswork and time out of detecting head gasket leaks. I was already 95% certain one or both head gaskets were leaking using cylinder compression and leakdown tests and radiator pressure test. I like the ability to shutdown a cylinder bank and test for a leaking head gasket on one head or the other. Caution, if you do this, you will most certainly trip computer codes and the engine service light on the dash. You need to be aware that you have to check that your code reader (if you have one) will reset the engine service light. Not all will. Many will clear codes but not reset engine service light so you may have to got to a shop to have light reset. Some car models can be manually reset or there is some trick to reset. One of the other anecdotal aspects of this test is that you can tell which cylinder bank is leaking faster or slower. The color change for my testing was gradual, ie it went from blue to green to yellow. This shows that the color change is relatively proportional to the amount and rate of leakage. The color change for the right bank was pretty quick and the color change for the left bank took several minutes. I ran this several times on both a hot and cold engine. The results were generally reproducible.

The product is for my husband to do a combustion leak test on my land rover range rover. The product once obtained was just fine, however your cutomer service dept. took it upon themselves to order the wrong one from my choices to have it delivered in a timely manner. That would mean it would be ordered from an outside source and I would pay shipping. I also had a choice to order from the amazon product and then there were two in my cart and I could not get the second one out. I have ordered from Amazon for many years and am very familiar with how to do orders, whether it be one click or regular, and even how to get free shipping. Imagine that. I was treated like a loser, like I had no intelligence on how to order products and tried to explain this but encountered difficulty with agent. The agent took one off and then proceded to charge me shipping although it would mean it would delay the delivery time of my product, if I ordered the amazon product. Like 3-5 weeks; I needed it sooner: well, I called and complained as the agent had promised he would make the change to free shipping as the item qualified: after an arguement, I was able to get the free shipping since they messed up on my order. It was not pleasant and I must say this is the first episode of this having happened; it was purely the agent treating me badly,trying to instruct me on how to delete the one click order as it apparently looked as if I had chosen that method. I think you could have avoided this all together if your agents weren't outsourced to a foreign country, where you get what you pay for. A country where women are second class citizens and that was the tone of this transaction. I did get the free ship, but I should not have to write and let you know that this particular employee, the second one, not the first, was rude and thought I needed to learn how to shop properly online. LOL on that. I shop online all the time....Imagine that.

NIASE MASTER TECH REVIEW Good value4 professionals. Purchased this item after a once over. I found it effective w/1 caveat. Be careful not 2allow fluids2 enter the intake during testing. This could result in a catastrophic fluid lock of any effected cylinder. In my case the blue color was already rapidly fading when a large bubble erupted directly into the cylinder pushing the test reagent &a considerable column of water up toward the top& out into the intake! I promptly shut the engine down2 avoid damage. BTW, if u c bubbles in the coolant reservoir, creamy white discharge on the engine oil dipstick or the same in the coolant; then u don't need the comfirmation granted by this kit. Any 1or all of the3 ARE comfirmation of a blown head gasket, or of a cracked head, or of a cracked engine block.

Trying to determine if you have faulty head gaskets is never fun. Mainly because if you are doing so, you know you already have a problem, and are more or less determining how much this is going to cost you. I figured for the price, I would try out this leak detector. It works by pouring a quantity of the fluid into the tube, and jamming it in the top of you coolant tank or radiator. You then hook the hose up to a vacuum source and then wait to see if the fluid changes colour. Well, the problem is you are supposed to drain out a bit of coolant from the system before doing so. I did not do this. Mainly because I felt draining coolant out of an already problematic system that was over heating was unwise. So, I tried it with a system full of coolant. Unfortunately, this only resulted in sucking coolant into the tube and invalidating the test. So, if you want to use this to test your system, you will need to drain some coolant out prior to doing so. Just for fun, I wanted to see the fluid actually change colour so I poured a small amount in a cup and placed it under the exhaust. Sure enough, it changes colour as expected. So, in theory if you drop your coolant level and do the test properly, it should be a decent indicator if you have exhaust gasses in your cooling system.

This kit is super easy to use and I prefer this style as I already have a hand vacuum. I use the same one as for brake bleeding. This as opposed to the other kits that have a built in bulb but that's a spot where it can break and render the kit useless. Its super easy instructions to follow and can give you a look to see if exhaust gases are present or not in the coolant knowimg if there is head gasket integrity issues.

Works as intended - luckily for me, running the test twice yielded a negative result. When I exposed the blue fluid to the tailpipe exhaust, it turned yellow after about 30 seconds, so the fluid is definitely reactive to exhaust fumes. Yes, you need to find an external vacuum source - this is something that people should know how to find if they're performing a test like this on their own and shouldn't be complaining about - especially for the price of the product. There are other more expensive kits that have a hand pump, if that's something you'd rather have, get that kit instead. Bottom line, this is easy to use, and is a great way to know for sure whether or not you need to replace a part that's costly to fix.

For a gasoline engine cooling system. May work with diesel, but I doubt it, since I believe that diesels put out less hydrocarbons. I think this company makes a diesel version of this kit. Make sure the cooling system is full, install this glass globe on the radiator opening/surge tank opening, fill with the magic mystery fluid, and connect it to a vacuum source. (Either to engine vacuum, or use a mity-vac style vacuum gun.) If there is a crack around the combustion cylinder, or a faulty head gasket, then you should see the magic mystery fluid change colour. This is just another quick way to check for combustion leaks. Other methods may be performing a cooling system pressure test, and checking for coolant on top of the pistons. Or, install a pressure test gauge on the cooling system, keep it at zero PSI, and run the engine. A bad head gasket may push pressure into the cooling system, and make the pressure gauge needle jump up. Or, perform a cylinder compression test.
