It provides decent protection from the sun. I wish the brim was slightly bigger so that it covered more of her face. The ties can be a pain sometimes, but I knew the hat had ties when I bought it. My baby is 4 months now and the hat is starting to get a bit snug and her head size is only in the 23 percentile, so her head is on the smaller side for a baby her age. I do use this almost everyday as it's been pretty sunny here in California and with the hat on I can be sure that her eyes are protected from the sun.
