Review: Yes, it really does work; a very nice ice cream scoop - OK, so, right off the bat I need to say that, no, this ice cream scoop is not magic. It will not make scooping hard ice cream like putting a hot knife through butter. It is not DRAMATICALLY better than a scoop that has less heat conduction than the aluminum and refrigerant construction. I once read about an ice cream scoop that had an insulated handle with a hollow interior, into which you would pour boiling hot water, plug it up, then use right away on the ice cream. Now THAT scoop was probably very much like using a hot knife on butter (or on ice cream, anyway)! I don't know if it's still made or not, but I wouldn't be interested even if it was, as it would be too much trouble to have to charge the scoop with very hot (or near-boiling) water every time you wanted to use it. But, anyway, the point is that if you are expecting something like that, you will not find it here in this Zeroll Original Ice Cream scoop. However, that said, I have to tell you that after we got this scoop, my wife asked me if I had turned down the temperature of the freezer because she found it noticeably easier to scoop out ice cream! I had not, of course, altered any of the settings on our fridge (and we do keep the freezer quite cold--the hard ice cream is definitely HARD--hence the reason I bought this scoop). So, yes, this scoop really does work. It really does make a difference. It's just not a dramatic one. And, for it to work, you need to scoop out your ice cream a bit on the slow side. If you try to dig it out of there at top speed, you probably won't find this scoop to make much of a difference and will just be annoyed at not being able to run it through the dish washer. But if you take a reasonable amount of time, and let the heat transfer do its thing, you will find it to be noticeably easier to scoop out your hard ice cream from the container. And the same goes for getting a ball of ice cream to release from the scoop: it may take a few seconds to fall off--but fall off it will; you just need to have a little patience. Beyond the heat conductive design, the ergonomics of this scoop are really great. It's made just so. The handle is a lovely size and shape; the scoop is a lovely size and shape; it allows you to create near perfect balls of ice cream, if that is what you desire. The aluminum is nice and shiny, although it does scratch easily (being aluminum). Of course, by the same token, it will also polish back up easily if you need a mirror finish on all your kitchen utensiles. We keep ours sitting out in a utensile jar on the counter and it looks great. The only thing I will say on the "con" side of things is that I wish I had gotten the next larger size (the 16-green one) than the one I got (the 20-gold one), as a slightly larger ball would look better on top of a sugar cone. However, it's not a big deal and the 20-gold 2 ounce scoop makes a large enough ball to work just fine with the standard sugar cones.
Review: Excellent Quality, Ice Cream Parlor Standards - This ice cream scoop is a pleasure to use! It makes nice round scoops. The handle which warms up from your hands makes scooping easier. It is in one solid piece, so it fits easily into the bottom corners of an ice cream container. Since it is made of aluminum, you have to hand wash it rather than throwing it into the dishwasher (so it doesn't oxidize the finish).

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Where is this product made?**
A: It is made here in the US, specifically in Florida.

**Q: Is the 2oz model the one Americas Test Kitchen reviewed recently?**
A: ATK lists the model they tested as #1010, which is the 4 ounce model.

**Q: do you think this will be better to use in a ice cream shop verse the spring ones l. What i want is a scoop that gives me scoop up a lot of cream per cup**
A: i think this would do well in an ice cream shop. you may want to educate your staff that this scoop has an internal liquid that functions off of heat - so keeping/dipping it in a cup of water between servings (or even shaking it with your hands just before use) will keep it warm and make scooping easier. i like that this serves nice rounded scoops and i suppose as long as you keep pulling you can make as large a scoop as you want.

**Q: Which size is best to make the biggest scoops that still fit commonly-available sugar cones?**
A: In my opinion (and I tried out a couple) the best size for cones is the gold one, I think it's the 2 ounce one.
