For hairlines it fits most heads on one application. For beards we have seen an average of 1 to 2 placements of product. All I get when I go to the barbershop is a 1.5 (wavelength) that's supposed to be WTG (with the grain), but in most cases my waves get cut out; ESPECIALLY at the crown. Not only that, but my hairline is usually pushed so far back that I thought I was beginning to get a receding hairline in my late 20s for crying outloud! At the point of this review, this is my second time cuttin my own hair. I could NOT line myself up freehanded. It's just hard to get a straight line that way with no barber experience. I've seen the cut buddy plenty of times on youtube and said "screw it why not?" Let me tell you..... my line right now is sooooooooooo crispy! I can't even believe that I did it myself! I have literally been going to and from the mirror all night amazed at the fact that I was able to do this myself. And guess what? MY LINE ISN'T PUSHED WAY BACK TO 1920 lmao! I don't feel like I should have been paying $20 for an even-all-over and a line up. I don't have any barber skills and was able to pull it off myself with ease thanks to the cut buddy. I'm not into tapers, fades and all of the other stuff. All I like to do is bring my waves out, box off the back and line the front and sides. That's literally it. If you're like me, buy this product. Even if you like to taper you can learn to do that too if it's THAT important to you. I don't have a beard so the two main portions were the straight edge and side burn shapes. I'm greatful for this device because this simple design will now save me approximately $480 a year ($20 haircut x 2 weeks (twice a month) x 12 months). Like 360 jeezy said "if anybody is going to mess up my hair, it's going to be me. I'm not paying a barber to mess me up!" Enough said! :) Also, I did not use the pencil that comes with it for the line. I think that's something that is better suited for cutting someone else's hair. Update: Now that I've learned how to freehand my lineup I really don't use this tool anymore.
