With no spring tension the door sags. I installed the 2 hinges on a picket fence 36" wide gate. I estimate the gate weighs 30-35 lbs. I tightened the springs as much as I could (or dared). While the gate was hanging correctly, just a little downward pressure (& I mean a "little") the gate would sag& the upper hinge would expand out beyond its correct position. I can live with this as long as it doesn't "tire" with use/age.
