Revised review after the first order was bad. Great Smart Socket with Some Setup Patience At first, setup was a bit tricky and took a few tries to get connected, but once it was up and running, it worked well for several months. It gave me convenient control over my lights through the Smart Life app and voice commands with Alexa. I did run into some Wi-Fi connectivity issues later on, but with a bit of troubleshooting and patience, I was able to get it working again. For the price and features, it’s still a solid smart home option—just be prepared to spend a little time during setup. If you’re looking to start your smart home journey without spending too much, this is a great product to consider.

I needed to control pull string light fixtures in the basement. I had bought some multi panel LED lights connected to the old fashioned pull string fixture but the kids were breaking the lights by trying to use the pulse string that would get wrappedaround the LED fixture. This allows us to just use Google Voice to turn the basement lights on.before we go down there. I searched specifically for these as they use the smart life app which I have used for years to Control outdoor landscape lights and smart timers for christmas lights. Adding them to the app was super simple as the app searched for them and found them immediately.. I am very happy with this purchase so far.

I bought this because it's the perfect solution for the overhead garage porcelain socket with a pull string. After 70 years it didn't work so well--or at all sometimes--and I was ecstatic to get the LED 3-panel paddle light I had in the socket to turn on and off with commands to Alexa. I've used the Smart Life app to prep devices for Amazon Alexa before, and this device worked with it. BUT, this device was a bit more challenging to install. If possible, use an existing lamp near the router to "pair" (calm word to describe getting your router to recognize and assign a local IP address to the smart socket). Close to the router and convenient is better than far away and on the ceiling. Press the pairing button and begin the install on Smart Life by pressing the "+" symbol at top right. Once paired, you can finish the install on Smart Life by giving the device a name you will use in Alexa. When you then go to Alexa, that app will recognize new devices on the network and will already have that name you gave it. And you're done. In my case, I was the full distance from the router and working with the ceiling socket. Something went wrong or wasn't recognized. It ended up locking up my router interface while it was trying to assign the IP address. Once I recognized that I reset the router (you won't have to do that if you are reading this), moved the whole operation onto a desktop and it all worked well. I then took the socket and installed it in the garage and it has worked perfectly. Distance is only a problem for the pairing sequence, not the daily operation.

Wanted to be able to turn my light on if I was coming home later or automate it on a schedule when I'm away on trips. Works great so far. They're no the lowest profile devices, but my outdoor enclosures conceal them well, could hardly tell they're added on. Nice that they've come with the added bonus to individually control my 3 outdoor lights instead of having them all on the single switch, so if I just want to check my porch at night I don't have to turn on the porch and garage lights... Setup is really easy, just another Smart Life device, if you've set one up before this won't be any different. Make sure your phone is on your 2.5Ghz wifi (if you're normally on 5ghz, these devices only work on 2.4ghz, some routers will swap automatically, depends on your setup). Open the app, hold down the button on the smart socket until the light start flashing rapidly in pairing mode, then use the app to scan for nearby devices. If you already have your Smart Life app paired with your google home app the device can be added there as well and you can control these with your voice. But scenes, schedules, and everything you really need can just be set in the smart life app.

Works well and very easy to setup. I have it connected to google home and I'm happy with it.

(PRODUCT received less than ONE star) I have an outdoor porch & garage lighting I would like to control (2 units) lights while traveling for 8 months abroad for international business (instead of leaving the porch & garage lights "ON" 24/7) my neighborhood is in the hills that is heavily DARKENED at night because of the abundance of trees nearby- our neighborhood had numerous break-ins ... I thought this product was a good idea at the time. IT WASN'T, very disappointed. First, Downloaded the APP as instructed, tried connecting the UNIT automatically via Wi-Fi, "unable to connect" reset the unit TWICE, tried 4x's, unable to connect the unit to the Wi-Fi router. I am a pretty tech-savvy guy. Connected (8) home internal color security cameras, (10) outside, front & back color-night vision cameras - ALL WIRELESSLY, no problems, and (2) home & side gate doorbell cameras, with ease. But this UNIT is the worst set-up assistance, overall. First of all, the product states the Wi-Fi and UNIT must be within 10m (or 30 feet) to operate. My Wi-Fi router is less than 3 feet (36 inches = less than 1 meter) from the product unit. Separated by ONE SINGLE WALL, PLUS... I have (5) extended Wi-Fi router repeaters strategically placed around the house & garage area for maximum coverage connectivity, for indoor & outdoor wireless usage ***** I DON'T RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT!!! **** total waste of money, time, and effort. **** WENT TO HOME DEPOT **** bought a similar product and paid less than AMAZON product. **** COMPLETELY SATISFIED with HOME DEPOT product.... took less than 3 minutes to set up and ONE ATTEMPT to connect almost immediately, with a strong 5BAR signal via Wi-Fi connection *****
