What's the reason to do that - thanks** A: all mechanical "egg-timers" do that, just that this one is cooler looking than the others, doing so activates the spring. it may work any given occasion without doing so, but moving to 55 first guarantees the spring is activated. **Q: Where was it manufactured?** A: I'm very happy with this little magnetic timer. I threw away the box when I knew I wasn't going to return it & there is no name on the back of the timer.
