Your water can seem pretty clear and still be off the charts dirty. What does your EC read? Everyone's water and tank is different, but a general goal would be to keep it under 600 (or possibly much less in a non planted tank depending on your source water) by doing water changes frequently. When I first got my G6 a couple years ago (also running as a second filter) mine would clog more often at first as well. As time went on my tank got cleaner and I'm guessing the filter also broke in after so many scrubings, letting a bit more pass through, but still pretty effective. I now clean them every 2 weeks or so, though my flow rate isn't affected much at that point, I want to stay ahead of it. I'm still running the same 2 filters (as I purchased a backup to swap with every so often). Magnum filter cartridges which need chloxox soaks, high pressure water flushing with the garden hose, and subsequent de-chlorination soaks, their G-6 pre-filter cartridge is easy to clean. The bottom cap pops off so the filter can be easily flushed. The G6 comes equipped with a large "bottle brush" designed for cleaning the pre-filter. I have cleaned the pre-filter several times. It looks pretty much like new and according to the flow rate monitor, it seems to be working fine. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Doing it this way allows it to last longer *by G***F on March 4, 2015* So I have figured out the secret to these things. I swap them every Sunday, put a good rinsing through it and then place in the dishwasher on sanitize. This cleans out all the gunk and allows the filters to be used longer.
