I work at a brewery and I want to build a sub enclosure in the brewery with a bourbon barrel.** A: The sub-woofer typically uses a mono amp with at least 200watts and a crossover which will filter out unwanted higher frequencies. You'd need entirely too much power, and the box would need to be impractically huge. Thanx >** A: We used 4ft wide x 30 inch highx 30 inch deep with a 6 inch resonance hole on the same side as speaker with grill cloth from Amazon for each speaker (2 boxes) and an 2000 watt amp/2-channel, and a Samsung 2000 solid state driver. KABOOM!!!! **Q: So is this thing 46.5 lbs or 52.6 lbs ? and has it really been available since 2001 ? trying to decide between this 1 & the ds18 21" ... thoughts ?** A: The Pyle is eight ohms which may be problematic in some situations however the sensitivity is one hundred seven which is unheard-of you can drive it with a hundred watts amp, we used three hundred watts and that was overwhelming. Also the use of a very sensitive woofer and smaller amplifiers means no need to upgrade the vehicles electrical system ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Get Ready For Base! *by B***G on Reviewed in the United States on March 27, 2013* With this speaker rated at 2000 watts, my main concern was that I would need a high power amp to drive it. I know that the 2000 watts is the peak power handling capability, but something that high is usually power hungry. When the speaker came I was surprised to find how heavy it was (in addition to being downright huge). I used a computer program to design a vented enclosure. Once I finished the front of the enclosure, I mounted and tried the speaker. Even without the rest of the enclosure the base was incredible. Once I finished the rest of the enclosure and mounted everything I gave it a test drive. This enclosure is quite large at almost 5' high by 3' wide and 2' deep. The base was overwhelming. My Onkyo has auto frequency adjust. It had me manually attenuate the subwoofer volume from 96 db to 75 db. This put the subwoofer volume at under 25%. It further automatically attenuated it another 2 db. This was all done with a subwoofer amp pulled from an old Radio Shack subwoofer and was rated at only 100 watts! With all frequencies in line, the subwoofer is not overbearing but offers those strong low frequencies with ease, that just cannot be reproduced with smaller speakers. By the way, my front speakers are vintage Electro Voice using two SP15 woofers in each side.
