At first I thought this set was plastic, but once I started sanding it down to fit, it smelled like bleached bone. Also, if you want to tell if you have a real bone one: drop your old plastic nut on a hard surface and then drop this one on the same surface. A plastic one will make a more dull "tink" while the bone will make a sharper/brighter "tink" noise.Overall, this set is a pretty good deal provided you don't mind taking time to shape it to suit your guitar's old nut (it comes with basically everything you need). If you want something to buy and just slap on quickly without doing any shaping you may want to look elsewhere.Protip: use generic Elmer's glue or an equivalent to help glue it in place (don't put too much! A drop or two is good enough) And be sure to use the graphite from a pencil to lubricate the string notches on the nut before you string up.
