You only can make designs the size of the actual circle, about 4 inches around, some of the holes are small but it still makes great designs. So easy to use and if you mix and match some designs with others, they come out really great. Have a great week! HobbyTown Customer Service **Q: Is the ink washable?** A: Yes **Q: What size replacement markers or pens fit with the holes?** A: They only refer to them as art markers but they have a longer, more narrow tip, apparently so they fit into the holes. I use my gel pens also for finer lined designs. This cyclex one has become my favorite over the big Spirograph. Can do quicker designs. Easier for kids, too. **Q: Will these pieces fit with Spirograph junior?** A: The pieces don't come apart in this set. All the wheels are set in the red frame you can see in the stock photo. It makes it very easy to use for beginners. I purchased for my 4 year old & she uses it independently. Since the pieces are set there's nothing to lose.
