Window Lock : Silver : (Keyed Alike When Several are Purchased in The Same Order)

This Toledo is not in Ohio, that Midwestern manufacturing center, nor is it imported from Toledo, Spain. There's another Toledo. This lock was "sort of" imported from Puerto Rico, from a lock company you probably never heard of, called Toledo Locks. (I say "sort of" imported because, though there is a website for Toledo Locks, the only place in the USA you can buy them is "Jon Richard Enterprises"). But I am here to tell you that you should buy THIS lock for your sliding glass door, if you are looking for a lock for such a door. There are cheaper locks, and that is what they are. Toledo's is the best one I have found. You see, our sliding glass door lock has been targeted several times by low- to mid-skilled burglars. I put a lock on it years ago when we moved in. The first time, burglars entered through a window but could not exit through the sliding glass door because of the lock. They were limited to passing our things out that window, which they did, and we lost good things. The same people returned a few months later but a new loud alarm sent them out the window fast. The third time, two guys were trying to lift the door out of its track when I was home asleep by myself. The lock prevented that, but they had broken it and were close to getting in. I tiptoed to the door and surprised them with a sudden very loud yell as I opened the drapery. They ran. But I had to get a new lock, and I wanted one which was strong enough that no crowbar attempt would break it. Toledo's is the one. You should be aware that even the best sliding glass door can be broken into by breaking the glass. Tempered glass--which is used for safety--is stronger than regular glass, but mid-skilled burglars can break it. Toledo's lock can make this very frustrating to accomplish, but it is possible. Unlike the other door locks, you mount Toledo's at the top of the door frame. It has a very long and strong bolt that slides into your track and into the wood that is above it. You should mount it so that the door will lift some, but not enough to let it get out of its track (which is what the burglars want to force it to do.) The heavy steel box should run into the door track at the top when a crowbar attempts to lift it, whereupon the bolt will prevent it from being moved anywhere but back down. The key causes the bolt to be locked in the upward position; if you turn it, the bolt slides down and you can use the glass door normally. I mounted mine on the inside, where it will prevent anyone exiting through that door and will make a lifting attack much more difficult. Other people use these locks outside, so they can lock the door after they exit, as with ordinary swinging doors. Think carefully and drill accurately when you use this lock, and you will be rewarded with the best sliding door lock that is made. Needed this to secure my door as I have a custom built window section that I use for my portable AC. This was the only real possible solution I could find so gave it a shot. First thing to note is it seems very well built. There is nothing I can say against the craftsmanship of this product. Installation took about twenty minutes. It would have been less, but I will share what I messed up to help prevent others from doing the same. You have to remove the latch to screw the lock to the door. Do not forget that the latch sticks out at all times about half of an inch. I put it right against the frame initially which was a mistake because of that half in gap (the door couldn't open unless I removed the latch). Install for me took two screws and three drilled holes. The instructions indicate a 12mm drill bit. The hole needs to be slightly bigger than a 3/8" bit, though if you are like me and don't have a 7/16" bit handy you can make the 3/8" work by just slightly expanding the hole by tilting the bit. Not the best method, but if you are careful you will have a round hole. Make sure to drill a pilot hole. The other two drill areas were for mounting the lock to the door which was done with a very small bit as a pilot, then drove the screws in. The door frame and door are all aluminum so I did not feel the need to put any of the plates or additional hardware on. I installed mine on the front of the door (same area as the handle). My sliding door is installed backwards from what is normal where it opens and closes on the outside track rather than an inside one, so putting the lock on the back of the door wasn't useful. Bottom line: I found it easy to install and well built. Time will tell how well it holds up, but first impressions are that it will last for a long time.

I bought this product to prevent children from opening the terrace door. It was installed easily (not by me). It comes with a key lock but it also locks without the use of the key. I am very happy with the product. More than that, is the service I received from the Seller. I needed the lock earlier than even the paid shipping would have brought it. I appealed to the Seller and he honored my request. It has made all the difference with the lock being able to be installed in time. This sliding door lock was easy to install and easy to use once installed. The lock was a great price. I feel very confident in the security this lock provides, giving peace of mind.

This has worked out perfectly for me! Although most people use a lock like this to keep people out, I need it to keep my 10yr old autistic son from opening the sliding glass door to our 3rd floor balcony. He has no concept of the danger of jumping off such a height and it's a very scary thought. This is a VERY heavy duty lock and the door is now 100% secure from opening from either side. Installation was extremely easy.

The lock itself is sturdy and performs as expected. I needed to ask a question about the lock and contacted the manufacturer at the phone number provided; the automated system said a text message would be sent with contact information but it was just an email address. Email to that address goes unacknowledged.

Very satisfied with the quality of these locks. I installed 2, one each on my first floor and basement sliding glass doors. The installation was fairly straight forward but requires drilling into the door jam and the sliding door. Once installed I was impressed with the holding power of the bolt. The door will not move when the bolt is in place. On my set up the bolt slides more than an inch into the door jam. My 2 locks were keyed alike and all 4 keys operate the tumblers seamlessly. A lock of this quality should be standard issue on all sliding glass doors and provides a similar level of security that a deadbolt on a standard entry door provides. If you need/want more security on your sliding doors don't hesitate to buy these toledo locks!

These locks are easy to install and very sturdy; I installed two of them on the same door - top & bottom. I used a rather large Hilti drill and had to remove my sliding glass door in order to drill the holes straight, otherwise, the bolt would have gone in at an angle and caused issues. I highly recommend this product to increase security in your home. A thief would find it very challenging to lift my door out of the tracks with two dead bolts locked top & bottom. NOTE: My sliding glass door is made of virgin vinyl and there were no issues securing the lock to the door. However, I do recommend using plastic anchors in the two screw holes to ensure a very snug fit (anchors not included).
