It's a fun story and has a nice recap at the end that makes it easy for kids to remember diameter, circumference and radius. But, I was happily surprised to discover that the book covers much more than circles. In the early attempts at making a table all can fit around, they cover some pretty cool things: -- cutting a rectangle in 1/2 to make it a square -- cutting a square on the diagonal to make a parallelogram -- octagons -- ovals It was a great book, made better by the addition of these other cool shape concepts. The plot moves fast enough that it's not boring at all, and teaches math in a fun and memorable way. Review: This whole series is great. - I bought the whole set to read with our grandchildren, ages 4 and 7. Now the 7--year-old is reading it on his own as well and seems to get these intriguing ideas behind numbers, shapes, dimensions, angles, and degrees. The series is written by an ingenious math teacher with a talent for weaving basic concepts into clever stories about "Sir Cumference," "Lady Di (of) Ameter," their son "Radius" and a host of similar Camelot characters. The illustrations are rich and fun. At first our 4-year-old was afraid to overhear about dangerous castles, scrappy knights, and dragons (which is strange, since she's willing to follow her older brother into the world of "How to Train Your Dragon"), but by flipping through the pictures beforehand and sometimes previewing the happy ending, I'm able to get her to cuddle up and absorb. I'm sure much older kids would enjoy Sir Cumference, too, and learn a good deal from them.
