They were wired for European outlets. I bought these along with the piece needed to screw in the bulbs (European bulbs are different sizes) and was able to rewire the lamp to work in the US. It was super easy, these cords are the perfect length for a table lamp, have the on/off switch similar to the one that came with the lamp, have sturdy polarized plugs (others I looked at were super cheap plugs - I did not want to use those in my house!), and made the whole process a breeze. My husband is currently stationed over in the Middle East and said he's going to be bringing more home when his deployment is over. The switches operate smoothly with discernable tactile feedback for position. The protrusion located on the ON side of the switch, for the blind, should be larger. The switch is located in the dead center of the 6 foot cord, which is a terribly inconvenient location. This leads to the switch laying on or dangling just above the floor, even when the appliance it is installed on is placed on a high counter. The Amazon description states this cord is rated for 60W MAX, the 18 gage cord is rated for 125V and 4.2A. The switch is marked 125V and 3A, assuming a power factor of 0.55, the actual rating of this cord and switch comes out to approximately 200W.
