Big case... small bucks... all the room you need

*by M***Y on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on May 27, 2013*

I purchased this case to setup a new video editing system, it was one of the few cases that supports the EEB form factor motherboard (ASUS - Z9PE-D8 WS) that I chose for this system. The case is roomy but I found a few issues, these should in no way be show stoppers but should be considered.First, I had a slew of Noctua NF12 and NF14 fans sitting around from a previous build, the top vent plate doesn't have enough clearance for you to install the Noctua with the rubber grommets installed in each corner, I had to strip them off and even then the top vent doesn't work very well. In most cases I have found that when opening or closing it will pop from it's snap in points making you stop and fix the case, this should be re-engineered in some way so that it can work better.Second, the drive trays are flimsy, I just built a system using the Fractal Design XL R2 case and their drive trays are metal, solid and have a great feel, these plastic trays just leave something to be desired. On the subject of trays, this system has 5 SSD drives and 1 traditional drive, cabling for SSD is awkward despite having so much room in the case. The drive bays only load from the back and it makes for a very tight working environment when cabling. My last issue was cabling, for such a big, bad monster case, it has no outward push on the back cover, there is almost no room back there for cable management, this was a huge shortfall. Did it all fit, yes, could it be better, let's just say that NZXY could stand a look at a case like the Corsair 400R where cable management was something that was taken into account for in the overall design.Positives, the led light on the back panel is a great idea, the included fan connection hub is nice, and the included motherboard extended power cable is nice too but again a miss, no 24 pin extension! If you're going to supply 1 you should supply both! In the case of the Asus Z9PE all the connectors are on what is the top of the case so I had to purchase additional extensions, I found them here on Amazon oddly enough from NZXT (CB-8P and CB-24P) and included them in my order so I was covered but something for NZXT to consider. It's a nice case, it's sharp, color matched extremely well between the white plastic and sheet metal and overall for a large system it is perfect, NZXT should consider some of the points I've detailed and maybe do a new version in the future.

    large case great potential

*by H***L on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on September 19, 2013*

built a couple of general use computers for family and friends. this case is my first choice for first personal gaming buildproslarge plenty of room for cable management. great water cooling potential and very customizable. very easy to build in. plenty of screws and they are organized, separated, bagged and labeled. rubber grommets are top notch. very well fitted and good quality. comes with plenty of fan filters and very easy to breakdown. love the look been looking at this case for a while before purchasing. one of the best clean looking full towers around. color looks great. case may be a year old design but still holds its own against most casescons:first personal build so kinda anal about things. it came in with one of the top edges scuffed slightly very slightly. i dont feel like making an rma because too much of a hassle probably gonna get a corsair 750d when it releases. dont like that the hot-swap bay uses a molex. i run multiple ssds and they can sit kinda far back on the drive cages and it makes putting in the sata power a pain. personally would have liked to see them make openings leading from the top of the case to the back of the motherboard to run fan cables. dont like having to run them out from under radiator through grommets probably an easy fix by cutting some in but should've been there to begin with plenty of room. would have been nice if they made the case another cm longer to raise drive cage mounts up 1cm. because if you mount a fan on the bottom for intake you can't have fan on bottom drive cage unless you angle it. front panel input cover hard to open (probably because of my fat stubby fingers). adhesive velcro on fanhub came right off when trying to reposition. thank god i had extra velcro and 3pin fan extensions. front panel fan filter not easily removed. the bottom portion of the front vent allows unfiltered air to be taken in. if it wasnt scuffed coming in and had a smoked rectangular window i would have given it 4-5 starsfinal thoughts:im probably being very picky. its a great case and im probably gonna be keeping it for a month or two. however its probably because i've been waiting for a corsair obsidian full tower that had usb3 support that wasn't the 900d that giant beast of a case. and i saw an accidental release of a review for the 750d the day after i ordered this case and the rest of my parts. also that it came in slightly scuffed after a hard days at work that im being super ocd

Excellent interior layout but atrocious external design and materials.

*by C***2 on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on April 25, 2014*

I currently own a CM storm trooper case, which I have had for two years. I fancied an upgrade. After watching youtube reviews, I decided to go for this one. Item arrived yesterday and after carefully inspecting the design and build quality, it has some good features and some mediocre features (which were a deal breaker for me).The good:I love the interior cabin design and customisable options available for modular design. The cabin is very spacious (noticeably bigger than my CMST) and has excellent cable routing holes. I also really like the placement of two internal fans on the HDD cage, the position of which can be adjusted via a hinge mechanism (so the fans can directly face the gpu or can be tilted upwards to blow air onto your cpu). The back panel behind the motherboard tray allows about one inch space for cable management. Also, there are many well placed hooks/notches to allow for decent cable routing and to give your build a clean and tidy look. There are two HDD cages which can be removed, to allow fitting of 240mm radiator, or you can remove one HDD cage and use the other (if you have only three SSD's/HDD's). The skeletal chassis has a solid construction, as do the metal side panels (including the side panel with the window as they do not bend/flex easily, which is a good sign as it has been constructed of good quality steel). The bad:I absolutely hate the exterior design. Bearing in mind the internal features, I thought I could live with the atrocious exterior design and build quality, but I was wrong. The worst parts without a shadow of a doubt are the cheap, plastic clip on front panels and bay drive flaps and also the equally cheap, mediocre plastic top panel which has a temperamental switch to open fan vents or to keep it closed. When I viewed the pc case from the top and front, it immediately reminded me of the cheap and nasty pc cases that I used to have when I owned my very first pc back in 2004. This was a major turn off for me. I also had some issues with the top and front panel in that they were clip on panels, which would not sit firmly inside their slots. They kept popping out of place!. Also the removable bottom front panel for the fans would not sit flush against the rest of the panel. Another problem was that the switch for the top panel air vents (to open/close) said air vents kept getting stuck, so you would have to use more force to operate the switch. This again was a major deal breaker for me, bearing in the mind the cheap, low quality plastic used in this build would easily break within a short period of time. Also, the bottom (cheap, plastic) dust filters kept popping out of place. All of these problems and the mediocre quality of plastic used irked me a great deal, especially when bearing in mind a price tag of £140. For that sort of money, I damn well expect a good, robust build quality and also good quality materials to be used. I also expect the case to be mostly SECC steel and not cheap plastic. Did I also mention that the case wobbles very easily?.I am extremely disappointed with this case, bearing in mind the poor external design, build quality of top and front panels and cheap materials used. I cannot understand how NZXT justifies a price tag of £140. Even if you look at their more expensive cases such as the 820 phantom, that again is mostly plastic!. What offends me further is that it commands a price tag of £180!. For £200, you can purchase the far more superior Phanteks Enthoo Primo case (which I purchased for my brother when undertaking his pc build). The PEP is far superior in build quality, materials used and design. All of this for only an extra £20 and it also has a 5 years manufacturer warranty!.Furthermore, I have used numerous CM cases (mid range and top end) and I found even mid towers such as the 693 were mostly steel and the plastic used for the front and top panels was a much better quality. I have also owned the HAF 932. It was a really ugly case, I did not like it but I kept it anyway because that thing was built like a tank and it had a decent amount of internal space. The CMST has it's good points and also let downs, but I kept it anyway because the build quality was good and it served it's purpose adequately. For the record, I am not a CM fan boy. At one point, I was going to buy the Cosmos 2 but when I learned it was mostly plastic, I was incredibly disappointed and I decided not buy it. If I am going to shell out £300 for a pc case, then I damn well expect it to be made of aluminium and high grade SECC steel.Overall, I am very disappointed with this NZXT 810 case. The internal cabin has some great features and bags of space BUT the external aesthetics and quality of materials used are a major let down. I can confidently say, I will never buy an NZXT case again. Not unless they improve their case designs/materials and get rid of their cheap Chinese suppliers and manufacturers. After two hours of assessing/inspecting this case, I decided to return it for a full refund.
