My thermostat is on a wall that is also the return duck going up into the attic. Because of this I have never had correct reading from the thermostat, and I have had two different ones. This one you can change the reading by setting a correction value but this still did not help me. In warmer temps it needed one setting and another in cooler. It was annoying. I got these and placed one in the kitchen and the other in the living room. What I found they do is communicate with the thermostat and they create an average temperature for the house. This has made the readings much more consistent and accurate. I am much happier now and was able to remove the temperature correction from the thermostat. They were extremely easy to set up. The are also small and do not stand out in the room. They use an RF connection with the thermostat. Company descriptions indicate a 65' range for the smart sendor vs. a 45' range for the room sensor. The company stated in a pro training session that the actual distance can be farther depending on material (walls, etc.) attenuating the sensor signal to the thermostat. I believe the company rep also stated the response of the smart sensor is much faster than the room sensor (something like 5 seconds vs. a minute or two.) And yes, the battery can last much longer (approximately 5 vs. 1 year) **Q: Has anyone used both the old sensor (came with Ecobee 3) and this new one and noticed a difference? What is better during real world use?** A: I have both the room sensor and the smart sensor, 2 each. First the difference, room sensor cannot detect occupancy but smart sensor does, if you have follow me setup you’d have better results if you use just the smart sensor. Battery life is about the same given smart sensor uses the more expensive and higher capacity CR2477 VS CR2032 on the room sensor. **Q: Does this model work with ecobee3 lite?** A: I also had issues updating the firmware on the 3 lite. Customer service was able to push and I was then able to pair without any problems. Working great now! **Q: Do we need more sensors to place 1 in each bedroom or 1 is enough?** A: It depends. We have a 3 bedroom home but since it’s just me and my wife, mostly only one bedroom gets used. However, one of our adult children visits about once a month and uses one of the bedrooms a couple nights while he’s here. So, we have a sensor in that bedroom as well. But, that sensor only participates in “sleep” in the schedule, so it only pays attention to that sensor at night. If you use every bedroom in your house, you may want a sensor in each. I have not had any issues with them not picking us up and detect motion well. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ecobee Smart Sensor - Works Great *by J***Y on April 13, 2024* The ecobee Smart Sensors hook into the app and ecobee thermostat super easy. Really little to no configurations at all, simply scan the QR code on the sensor and the app finds it and adds it to your thermostat. Not everyone needs additional sensors, but for me this was a must. The only thermostat that is installed is in the ecobee Smart Thermostat and it is installed in an area that does not see people cross its path very often. When it thinks that there is no one home it then stops heating or cooling to save energy (good thing). The bad part is when we don't go past the thermostat it thinks no one is home and the house either gets super cold or very hot until we go past the thermostat or manually adjust in the app. With these little sensors, you can have them in areas that people are in and it registers that someone is home and keeps the Heat or AC running. Some people may say why not turn of the the ability of the thermostat so it just stays on. Well, that defeats the purpose of a smart thermostat, and I do want it to be able to automatically turn the heating off and on if we are really not at home. Overall these are great little sensors and I think very well designed.
