I found this out the hard way. I emailed Asus tech support and they said there won't be any firmware updates to formally support the HDX. **Q: I just purchased the Dell Venue 8 Pro tablet. I use this to stream 1080 video from an asus transformer book to my vizio tv. This does it plug and play, immediately from the box. I have a few issues but really not serious.prosplug and play. Will do what you want out of the box.very nice build quality. good finish, good weight.video looks much like it would with wired connection. (with a few minor hiccups now and then)Upgrade relatively easyConsWhile upgrading firmware isn't too difficult, it is not well documented in the manual or on asus website. Should be spelled out in the manual.Power is on all the time. Would be nice if it would go into standby. I dont like powering things that aren't in use. The thing puts off some heat which means wasted energy. Would rather the device was powered on when the tv is, and off when the tv is.Most important- Scaling issues. With the tv set to normal scaling there is a 1" border around the screen. the first time I used it there was no border, It seems not to follow any particular formula so I dont know if it is the device,the tv, or the computer, but i think it is the dongle. I can set the tv to wide mode, but then it pushes the edges slightly past the limits of the screen. So I will use it as such but I really wanted something with zero issues. Plug it in and all is what you expect, Not the biggest issue ever but when you can get a similar device for half the cost i expect a little more.All said I like this wireless hdmi dongle. It isn't perfect, but does what it should. if it weren't for the scaling issue i may give it 5 stars. At the end of the day i can make it work and it does work well. The fact that it will scale properly sometimes and not others makes it worse than just requiring wide mode all the time for me. If I find that this is related to another part of my setup I will amend this review. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Pricey compared to other miracast adaptors but doesnt seem to have the issues the cheaper ones do. *by B***N on August 25, 2014* Hooking this up was easy, it comes with a 90 degree HDMI adaptor so you can squeeze it in with your other HDMI cords.Updating was a tad odd but easy enough, to update it you can either hook it up via usb to one of a few Asus tablet that support it or you can download the update to a PC then connect directly over WiFi to the adaptor and upload the update into the adaptor.Once updated it works flawlessly with my Nvidia Shield and Surface Pro Gen 1.In case you're unaware there is about 100ms of lag when using this that makes it unsuited for most gaming.But if you want to play a movie or show some pictures its amazing.There are some small compression artifacts, but its very minor, I could only tell the difference by hooking up HDMI and miracast at the same time to my PC and swapping inputs back and forth to compare.I was leery after reading about other miracast adapters dropping connection and having frame drop issues.But when I saw Asus made a miracast I went for it and was not disappointed.I have had zero issues so far.Everything works perfectly and I would definetly reccomend this to those on the fence. ### ⭐ Worked for a while then stopped, can't update firmware *by T***S on June 29, 2014* I used this with a kindle fire for a while and it worked well. After a kindle automatic update the dongle started crashing when the kindle tried to reconnect.
