The two parts taste quite different, so it is like I got 2 pickles for 1. The filling is darker in color, with a sandalwood-like scent, a fairly common flavor in Japanese pickles. The cucumber part taste like the Chinese "saucy pickles" I grew up with (the dark brown kind), just as crunchy with similar sweet/salty flavor. I highly recommend this.
