Review: I love xplane 10 - XPlane 10 is a very realistic flight simulator, which is very flexible and extendable. First, I tried installing xplane in a I7 notebook with Intel graphic card. The animation was so bad, that I can't even take-off. Then I tried in another computer which had a slow CPU and a low end nvidia graphic card. To my surprise, animation worked great in this computer. With normal texture rendering flying experience was awesome. Here is my setup. CH Combatstick is my joystick, moving map on an android tablet and panels handy on my android phone. Here is how I setup the moving map. XPlane can be configured to send the coordinates and heading to an Android tablet running an app called 'Xplane to GPS'. This service app will receive XPlane coordinates and give mock location to other apps. OpenFlightGPS is another app that shows the plane coordinates in sectional charts. Here is my update after flying for couple of weeks: Installed in a newer I5 Windows8 laptop with Intel HD 4000 graphics. Without turning down any rendering options, rendering is awesome. Even more realistic, with more details in the scenes. Initial loading and changing planes/airports is much faster. It is packaged with only few older planes. But, you can download all the latest and greatest air-crafts online. I downloaded King Air 350, which is a very fast twin engine prop plane. You can grab real-time weather in your route. Another feature I love is you can scale the ground speed. For example, you can set the ground speed to 4X. You will reach your destination 4 times faster then it will take otherwise. There are many more aspects to learn.
Review: Don't Buy Until You Have A Gaming PC - This product needs to come with a pre-purchase warning label. Unless you have a very fast gaming PC, don't buy it. Admittedly, I tried to load it on an older XP computer. After updating the operating system to Windows 7, adding 4 GB RAM and adding a new video card to get past the video limitation of the motherboard mounted video chip (64 MB, 128 MD minimum required); I was finally able to load the program. For those that need details, the computer is an older HP Pavilion s7600n with a AMD 6400 3500+ 2.2 Ghz CPU. Unfortunately, the program doesn't function very well on my desktop. For an hour or two, the only thing that I saw with some regularity is an occasional glimpse of a screen shot of the view from the left seat of a TBD jet liner, but mostly a black screen with 'X System (Not Responding)' and the computer busy symbol. I finally got into the Settings menu to try to dumb it down to fit my system; but it slow going. There are a lot of gaps in my knowledge of setting this program to figure out to get the program to run smoothly. It looks like it has a lot of great features, but not really able to take full advantage with the limitations of my PC. Maybe I can find a Real Dummies Book for XPlane to help. I am very disappointed after reading all the reviews and even have the X Plane app on my Ipad. I know the computer is old; but unless you have a high powered gaming PC or possibly a Cray; buyer be warned.

XPlane 10 is a very realistic flight simulator, which is very flexible and extendable. First, I tried installing xplane in a I7 notebook with Intel graphic card. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Power Hog - I think this really is Microsoft after all...

It was quite disappointing to discover my two-year-old hand-built XP Gaming computer was barely able to load this behemoth... I'd heard so much about all the neat things that X-Plane could do I was exceedingly frustrated to discover that I'll apparently need a new machine to enjoy it... my other option may be to drop back a version, but I was surprised that after all these years of consumers and gamers alike complaining to the geek-class about their bloat-ware, that message hasn't gotten through... oh well, lesson learned, I'm done complaining. X-Plane is clearly different than FSX - a bit like transition from NASCAR-2 to Grand Prix Legends, for those who remember that transition. The physics model in X-Plane seems much closer to what a real plane behaves, although I've got about half the stuff dumbed down for my machine. The keyboard and joystick commands are strange to me after twenty some years of FS -- practically all changed; probably keeps them out of intellectual-property hot water with Microsoft, but is yet another hurdle for the fledgling X-Plane user. So far after three weeks I haven't completed the transition so I'm not really flying as much as having my nose buried in the pdf file - what's this with no documentation in a program that doesn't allow split screen; user unfriendly for the X-Plane neophyte... Would I buy it again, absolutely... the graphics I can see are wonderful and I'm looking forward to eventually actually flying. The anti-geek in me is not entertained by all the garbage that one has to go through - indeed a real plane seems far simpler, unless one aspires to flying buses and cargo birds - but what the heck, the price is right and eventually I'll get there. So far only three stars, but I'm adding one because of my high-hopes...
