PortaPow USB Data Blocker (2 Pack) - Protect Against Juice Jacking

I wish I knew about these devices sooner. I always set my cell phone to power only or would use a wireless charger where I would go but having this is another nice alternative to give you a USB charging connection without worrying on data being transmitted to your phone or have the phone transmit data to a receiving device. The data blocker works fantastic with samsung quick charging and is great to help assure you are not transmitting data by having the missing data pins on the port so you know it's impossible for it to transmit. The only recommendation I would give to the manufacturer for this would be to possibly have a tiny loop on the side where you can put a keyring on it to help keep it safe so you don't lose it easily but I wouldn't have a problem with it since it's bright red to grab your attention. Just something for thought that's all.

Pros: I like the price and fact that the red makes these stand out. With my Garmin there has always been a problem when connecting to a car that the car rather than just giving power to the device would try to connect. This eliminates that problem. Now with rental cars I've switched to Google Navigation and I like that this isolates power only to your usb device, and that way my phone is safe from a USB Virus attack from a rental car. The peace of mind of being able to plug into any USB JACK and just get power only is priceless. CONS: These are easy to loose either to theft or just putting in a drawer and forgetting which one. Yes I'd buy these again, and just did as didn't want to spend time looking, Also I'd recommend them to friends. bdv

Nice to see a product that does exactly what it is supposed to do. I ordered this primarily so that I could get a faster charge rate from USB ports on my computer or in my car. Yes, I do have actual QC Fast Charge chargers, but it is nice to have an alternative. Secondarily, I like the notion of being able to block data transfer. This is very handy during travel or whenever you might be plugging into unknown USB ports. I was able to confirm that this blocks data since when I plugged my phone into the USB port on my laptop, using this adapter, my laptop did not detect it being plugged in, but the phone did start to charge. As for the charging speed, I had this plugged into one of the USB ports on my laptop and then had it hooked up to my Galaxy S8+. Using a battery monitoring program, you can see from the attached screen grab that I was getting a net charge rate of 900mAh. This was with the screen on, so with the screen off it would have been faster and certainly faster than the 500mAh that you would normally see from a USB port. Edit: Going to drop this down to 4 stars. I had this hooked up to the USB port in my car and the output could not maintain the charge, let alone add charge, to the battery while I was using my phone for navigation. Had to switch over to the fast charge adapter instead.

Isolates USB data and let's power only pass through so I can safely charge my phone at venue charging stations and the like. Now my phone is safe from data STDs. :)

You have to understand what this does and how it works to get the most benefit out of it. (1) Although it connects the POWER lines between the two connectors, it does not connect the DATA lines. Thus if you place this between a charging source and the device you wish to charge, there is no way for the charging source to use the data lines to install malware, etc. on your device. Given that such malware now exists, this seems like something everyone should do when charging devices from any power source, public or private, that they do not completely control: including computers at work or at friends' homes. (2) It has an integrated circuit inside that asks the power source to deliver as much current as it can. Without a chip such as this many chargers, including high powered ones, will only deliver a small amount of charging current. In these cases this product will help you get the most out of a charging source that is possible. But this device will NOT make a puny, weak charging source become a powerful one. And if your device already has the appropriate electronics inside then they will already be asking the charging source to deliver as much current as possible, so this product becomes redundant. Finally, this product consists of two connectors soldered to a PC board encapsulated in a red, rubbery material. I expect this product to be more rugged and more water resistant than similar products that have hard plastic housings.

They work fine. Did a little test to ensure it's power only by connecting phone to laptop with it - it charged the phone but laptop did not recognize the phone - so works as intended. Glad I purchased.

This product did not work for the purpose for which it was purchased, However, it seems to work quite well for other uses. My application for it was to charge Apple devices in two Toyotas. The Toyotas disable the USB port when this is attempted. Details: What it does quite well is block data access while recharging Apple devices using the USB port on a laptop. It also works with USB chargers tested. What it was purchased for was to block data access while recharging in a car. We have two Toyotas, and each of the Toyotas disable the USB port when this is attempted. The charge indicator on the Apple devices does come on, but only for about 100 milliseconds. Then the port is disabled. If the Data Blocker device is removed, the port remains disabled. The automobile must be powered off and on to restore functionality. This was tested with an iPhone, and iPad, and an iPod on a Toyota Prius and a Toyota Sienna. The product is basically useful, but I reduced the star rating due to my inability to use it for the purpose for which it was purchased. I will not return the product because I expect it to still be useful for other applications.

Ottimo prodotto anzitutto, io ho preso la versione Smart Charge che è la più consigliata, ma ne esistono altre due ottimizzate per devices poco popolari e "particolari". Svolge sicuramente bene il suo lavoro: velocizzare la ricarica dei dispositivi connessi alle lentissime porte USB della maggior parte dei pc, (isolandoli al contempo dal trasferimento dei dati). Tuttavia non eguaglia in termini di velocità il caricatore originale dei nostri devices, ma si ci avvicina moltissimo: ho misurato la tensione con un apposito misuratore di tensione per prese USB: nelle fasi iniziali di ricarica eroga 0,90 ampere contro 0,99 del caricatore originale, verso la fine della carica (l'80%) l'erogazione rallenta a 0.50, e infine 0.30, esattamente come con il caricatore originale (è il telefono a comandare questa feature!!). Conclusione: Vale assolutamente l'acquisto, ottimo prodotto per chi lavora in ufficio / passa molto tempo davanti al pc, evita di portarti sempre dietro il caricatore da casa o l'acquisto di un secondo e più costoso caricatore da parete.

If you are still not sure about the product, I can safely say it works. It's a data blocker. Adapter which only lets through the power, but no data. Don't buy it and then complain how your devices cannot connect. It is literally made to block any data from going through. It's not immediately visible on product photos, but have a look at the attached picture. Red arrow points at a small window where you can see that only power pins are there, and data pins are completely missing. Green arrow shows that on the other side (where you usually connect your devices to charge) data pins are soldered together. To many devices this is a clear signal that the connected accessory is a pure charger, so they don't even attempt data connections. Physical quality is also very good. Everything seems solid and very well made. From few seconds of googling, I can see it's a small UK based company which makes these for many years already. That gave me confidence to order, but when the product arrived, I did my own measurements which only proved what's already obvious through the transparent casing. Top item - does exactly what it says. I'd be happy to buy again, but I don't need more :)
