The Andersons Professional PGF Complete 16-4-8 Fertilizer with 7% Humic DG 5,000 sq ft

I read the reviews on this fertilizer and decided to give it a try myself and the results are outstanding. The phosphorus-free formula is ideal for my area, and the fine particle size ensures even, consistent coverage. It combines all the essential nutrients in the ideal ratio that most experts recommend for regular lawn maintenance. I first started off in my lawn journey a few years back. When I purchased my home, my lawn was 99% weeds and dirt patches. I threw some Home Depot fertilizer and wow green! Then I realized it was all weeds :(. so I bought generic weed spray killer and planted seeds (that grew 5% of what I put down). Some weeds died , some lived over the next couple of years and and then started to come back and kill grass. 3 years later (this year) I put down a pre-emergent for the first time super heavy in the winter. Come around may I got down to about 5% weeds if that. But, the grass was brown, dry, and struggling during the growing season. I was not going to settle for paying for lawn care company when I put my hard work and tons of sweat in the Atlanta heat into it. Bags and bags of seeds, tons of weed killer, milorganite, lime, even paid for a soil test(didn’t come back anything alarming). Something about doing it yourself vs. like trugreen feels so much better when you reach your goal. So I took to YouTube, found Doc’s videos, figured I’d give this product a try. I aerated my lawn (with the manual tool after about an hour of rain, took about an hour it was a workout!). And threw this down at the bag rate. Watered it for a week by hand , and got a week of rain. I could see the grass grow during this period like wildflower, and green up every day. It’s like it activated 3 years of seeds that natural fertilizer/ box store spray fertilizer couldn’t do. So happy 14 days later, I didn’t expect these results. Next I’ll try the humichar like doc said in about a week to improve the soil. I’m ready for my buddies to come over so I can show off my green and tell them the secret sauce. Will be using at LEAST 2-3 times through the warm months to continue to improve lawn. I still have a few patches where I can see grass currently spreading into and turning into a full lawn. My wife will be upset that I’m spending so much time outside taking in my new view! Good luck

So, I did some dethatching before laying the Andersons fertilizer down and I think it responded very well. I fertilized it on the 14th of June and it’s now July 5. I’ll show an update in 2 more weeks. I tried taking the photo at the same time to eliminate different lighting. I’d recommend this to product to anyone. I gave the left overs to my dad and he loves the look of his grass, too.

Work great it's been three weeks and grass is dark green. It's expensive but you get a good stuff that works.

This product is wow! I have a new lawn, as in it was installed in Nov 2018. The Houston Spring/Summer has been record dry and hot this year so my lawn needed help. I was watering my lawn, applying Humic DG (for the soil) and Scotts turf builder for new lawns and even 10-10-10 fertilizer. But it just wasn't looking as it should. It was filledin but not thick. And some spots looked stressed. Then I was told PGF Complete. So I bought a bag in July and put it down. After about a 3-4 days I saw a noticeable darker green shade of the lawn. And within 2 weeks there were thick patches all over. (The patches I assume were from uneven distribution of the PGF when we applied it). FFwd to 4-5 weeks later and my lawn is thicker and healthier looking overall. The one down side to this product is that you go from cutting your lawn every 2 weeks to at least once a week. We're garden people, so that's fine for us, but just be warned. This thing really works, so be prepared to cut your lawn more frequently. UPDATE It’s been about 2 years since my last review and I continue to use PGF Complete and other Andersons products (10-10-10, Humic DG, Duocide, Barricade) with complete success. I’ve uploaded pics of my lawn where you can clearly see the difference between what my lawn looks like vs my neighbours. These pics were taken after a full week of rain and it just looks lush. I have gotten lots of compliments and questions, and I refer everyone to the Andersons store on Amazon. Yes they’re a little pricey, but when you consider one of their products/treatments is probably equal to 2 or 3 treatments from other cheaper products, well it works to be very cost effective. 2023 Update SIX STARS! It’s been a couple years since the last update and I’ve spent the last 9+ months focussing on the backyard. Voilá! Not surprised by the results. This, along with other Andersons products (humic, preemergent, etc), has the yard looking top notch. The last photos/vid were from last weekend, very much ready for the Memorial Day festivities. Many think it’s fake until they walk on it. It took lots of pampering to get it to this point but using Andersons products made the task easier.

Let me preface by saying, I am an Andersons and How to with Doc fan. I have basically bought and used everything recommended from Innova organic, original PGF, SuperJuice, Humic DG, Barricade DG, etc. for several seasons now. However, I cannot ignore the value and endorsement of CarbonX. I have actually purchased both PGFC and CarbonX, and applied each to half of my lawn. I want to see for myself which (if either) performs better. PGF Complete is certainly a nice fertilizer. It has small prill size, some micro nutrients, humic acid, and the magical 4-1-2 ratio. What it does not have is value...you just don't get the coverage with PGF Complete as you do with the other big enthusiast competitor, CarbonX. CarbonX does not have the fine prill size or 4-1-2. It trades humic acid for carbon via biochar (which is Andersons/Doc's new hot recommendation). While I certainly respect Doc for his experience, he's also not the only "expert" on YouTube. Allyn Hane The Lawn Care Nut and Pete from GCI Turf Academy are very well respected in turf care and both represent CarbonX; they don't have a problem with the prill size or lack of 4-1-2 ratio. PGFC complete is often unavailable in the 40lb bag, which off the bat is a cost disadvantage. It almost feels like an intentional scheme because at the beginning of the season 40lb bags were unavailable. Then like clockwork after everyone orders and puts down their first application, 40lb bags are now available! I wish I could have gotten that extra 4lb I'm missing out on for the same money. The coverage is laughable (18lb covers 5000 sqft at the light rate, with 0.58lb N/1000 sqft). That's 278 sqft per lb of coverage, at the light rate; keep in mind the light rate is the only rate listed on the smaller bags. CarbonX gives you 333 sqft of coverage at the recommended rate (0.72lb N/1000 sqft). So not only am I getting more coverage, but I'm getting more N down, which is very beneficial for pushing growth on bermuda. Doc is current recommending 1.5 bag rate to push growth early in the season...which further reduces my coverage and value. By that logic, why would anyone not choose to use a better value product to get this extra N down? Finally let's talk about price...PGFC is now $34.88 (18lb) and $69.88 (40lb) free Prime shipping, plus tax (tax a product of going through Amazon). Keep in mind the price has crept up since last season. CarbonX is $39.99 (24lb) and $59.99 (45lb) shipped, no tax. CarbonX offers better coverage, and you get more for your money...AND the guys selling CarbonX are working to REDUCE the cost via optimized shipping contracts. Considering Andersons prices are already high, and continue to creep, I think they are pricing themselves out of the market when there are more cost effective alternatives. Even if not 100% equivalent, I think CarbonX will give PGFC a run for its money. UPDATE: As stated I applied PGFC and CX each to half my lawn, so I could compare side-by-side. It's no surprise that the CX side had more growth, but it also had a much deeper color. That said, the PGFC side did seem to have a more uniform color, but that could come down to spreader overlap vs. just prill size. So far, I think I will restock with CX for my next order vs. PGFC, the cost/value is just something I can't ignore right now.
