Camp king
This portable popcorn maker was the celebrity of the campground on my trip. Now, it is abit flimsy when fully extended. But, for the price point and it's portable nature; the unit is great.

Family Fun
We gave this to my son for his birthday to use in the backyard fire pit. I wasn’t sure what kind of results to expect, but we bought the popcorn packets that come with the oil and salt and we were pleasantly surprised by how well it worked. The whole family enjoyed the taste! It is a little bulky for camping supplies, but the handle comes off, making storage a little easier. A great novelty for family fun.

Grab your pliers and put on your rapid motion arm!
I have been having a lot of fun with this popcorn popper! I first had to learn the proper way of using it, however! Make sure the lid is very secure before you begin popping your corn. This is where I found pliers to be necessary. The top pops off sometimes! I suppose my shaking method wasn't perfect at first, but I also believe the metal clips are not very strong. When working the popper over fire, try to be FAST! Also be smooth with your motions. You'll be SLIDING the popper! SLIDE it over and over, non-stop, even if you don't yet hear popping. Move in the direction of the handle: back and forth, back and forth! If you shake left to right and right to left you're going to make a big funny mess! Even funnier if you bounce it up and down! Make sure to use enough oil. It's probably going to be more than you think you need. I started with just 2 tablespoons of oil, and burned the heck out of those kernels! That left a bumpy surface for the next batches! Just put enough in the first time and you'll be golden. Coat the bottom of the popper with canola or sunflower, or even a blend marketed for popcorn. You probably need about 1/4 cup. Don't go overboard, either, of course. Once you start popping have containers ready to collect it! If you're doing it right, popcorn shoold start to overflow the popper when you've popped 2/3 to 3/4 of the kernels. It'll be lots of fun and you'll make a tasty nutritious snack! One more thing: the manufactures give a description of the size of the fire you need to make proper popcorn with their popper. I'm pretty sure the directions are meant to be a joke because they call for a firepit something like 3ft wide and suggest flames 4ft high! Lol!

Works well for camping
Grandkids love it when we use this for camping. Be careful as it can burn popcorn easily if you hold it too close. Use plenty of oil. It holds a lot and makes camping fun

Bonfire accessories
This is great when you are sitting around the bonfire. Could be a little longer handle. I’d suggest welders gloves or some other heat resistant gloves.

Dangerous Unit - please be careful when using, do not shake.
Most dangerous product I have ever had in my hands - the top pops off very easily and dumps the popcorn and all the hot oil into your fireplace!! Or potentially on you or your family, or in your living room. You can not shake this popcorn maker, if you do it will very easily just pop off. I thought high heat from the fire might have solely compromised the small metal clip that is holding the pot to the handle but when my wife wiggled the pot a little when it was stone cold it still popped off - and that was without the added weight of the oil and popcorn! Everyone is going to shake the unit, right? Aren't you supposed to make sure you get all of the kernels and not burn the popped corn? First time I used it the pot dumped into the fireplace, the oil and the popcorn all burst into flames. It was a hilarious moment for my family as they watched their dad scramble to get the pot out of the fire with the popcorn flying all over the place like straight out of a cartoon. Needless to say I am sending this back but I am concerned that other people will have this same problem.

I want to give this 5 stars
This product has much potential to be a 5 star product. The quality of the product material, at this price point, is very good - far better than others that I compared it to. E.g. I bought a unit at Walmart for about the same price, which was a piece of junk (1 star at best). Out of the box, this unit is problematic for the following reasons: 1) The connecting point between the handle and the lid is way too loose. In fact, this caused my first batch of popcorn to fall into the fire due to the connecting point coming free and the pan falling out. Yes, I had it connected properly. My recommendation to the manufacturer would be to connect the handle to the pan rather than the lid of the pan. But even with it attached to the lid, it could still use a more precise attachment. There is just way too much slop in the fitting and the little spring steel release actually acts as a ramp for the end of the handle to slip up on and come loose. I had to modify that little spring steel part to get my handle to stay on without falling off while gently shaking it in the fire while popping corn. 2) The lid is a nice idea but it does not secure tight enough onto the pan to hold the weight under it while shaking (not too hard of course) over a flame. Mine came off while popping a batch, and I was being very careful. I had to modify all the spring clips to get them to hold, but even then, they are still not nearly as tight as they should be. The fix, of course, would be what I suggested above - to have the handle attach to the pan and not the lid. It doesn't really make sense to have the lid support the weight of the pan, oil, and popping corn below it when the pan itself could be used to attach a handle. Besides these frustrating things, I really love this concept. The extending handle, the flip lid, the quality of material, etc. are all great and if these problems were corrected by the manufacturer, I think they would have a 5-star product. I gave it 3 stars because I still think it's a good value for this price. If you are up for a little modification, you will likely have the best open fire popper anywhere close to this price. Just don't be too surprised if you loose your first couple batches of popcorn due to poor fit. My family got quite the laugh when they watched me attempt to make them the perfect first batch of popcorn with this thing, only to end with that perfect batch end up on fire, literally, in the coals of our campfire. Fortunately, the pan only received a small ding from hitting a rock.

Turns out great every time!
We had so much fun using this over the campfire this summer. Each batch turned out perfectly. We found a recipe online that called for 1 cup of popcorn kernels and about 4 tablespoons of oil. I did 5-6 tablespoons and none of the popcorn burned. One suggestion is to go just under 1 cup, as there are many unpopped kernels due to all the space being used with this amount. I'd say 5/6th would be a good amount. All you do is shake it over the fire and in less than 5 minutes, you'll hear it sizzling and popping. My only problem with this product is the handle is a pain to get on and off.

It makes the best popcorn I have ever had
It makes the best popcorn I have ever had! (next to theater popcorn, of course). It pops almost all the kernels and pops it in no time!!! You just have to be careful not to leave it on for too long. It only takes seconds. It works great the handle and the lid are sturdy. Definitely recommend it for the campfire lovers!

Great popcorn
This makes amazing popcorn on the BBQ and firepit. The handle comes off very easily as it's only secured with eye hooks that are too big but the product is otherwise super easy to use and clean.
