Tag says to use a commercial front load washer. Has anyone ever used a top loading washer?

I have washed my daughters napper every week for the last 3 years and it's still holding up! The velcro is getting quite worn as you'd expect but if you clean it out every so often it still works. We've had a variety of washers in that time. We always wash and use the dryer. Works perfect.

Is this machine washable?

Yes. I machine wash ours weekly and it is still in great shape. I don't put it in the dryer though. It dries quickly just hanging up.

Why does the pillow have to be removed for washing?

It doesn't have to be removed - I've washed t a few times with the pillow and it's fine. But I think the stuffing in the pillow gets bunched up in spots after washing, so I chose not to wash it often.
