Review: Good but to loud - A very good player iam using the matching amplifier however i have found also the output to the ampkifier is too loud i had to use a seperate passive pre amp to adjust the output level when this was done the sound is very good i wonder if this is a slight fault as only one other person has mentioned it but i can assure him its not his nad amplifier iam using the matched cambridge audio amplifier and have the same issue that aside i bought the two bits of kit together iam very impressed sound and build is very good for the money i would. However, I believe it’s the CD tracks that are playing... and not the SACD layer. This particular disc is a hybrid disc, so also contains regular CD audio. This is what I’m hearing. I don’t believe an SACD-only disc would output anything on this player. There’s no mention of SACD audio in the instructions, nor on-line. **Q: Does this require an amp?** A: Yes it does need to be plugged through an amp to work. It just has left and right line out on the rear panel. **Q: Does this have a headphone socket** A: No headphone socket. But delighted with the sound quality. Recommend this set up as it is compact looks good and sounds great ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent CD player, but be wary of the output volume *by J***E on 29 April 2021* I required a functional CD player to replace old kit - I hadn’t appreciated how limited the market was to be honest, but settled on the AXC25 at £229. As there are only 2 lines out, set-up was straight forward, plugging into an old, but excellent, Pioneer SA560 amp. I mention the amp, because, as other reviewers have mentioned, the output levels from the CD player seem very loud indeed. Make sure when setting up you have volume set low otherwise your speakers may suffer! Anything above 3 on the Amp dial is deafening, and I might look into this further. I presume if you have a Cambridge Audio Amp this may not be an issue, but bear it in mind. The sound is great, crystal clear, plays differing formats, and the remote control, which I’ll probably never use, does what you’d expect, including having a Random Play option. The CD Player looks pretty minimalistic and sleek too. I have given it only 4 stars because of the loud sound output, which I think is OTT. I note the online guide does not mention the loud output in the Troubleshooting section - Cambridge Audio should offer advice on this.
