2018 Reprint of 1892 Edition. This short story is regarded as an important early work of American feminist literature, illustrating attitudes in the 19th century toward women's health, both physical and mental. Presented in the first person, the story is a collection of journal entries written by a woman whose physician husband (John) has rented an old mansion for the summer. Forgoing other rooms in the house, the couple moves into the upstairs nursery. As a form of treatment, the unnamed woman is forbidden from working, and is encouraged to eat well and get plenty of exercise and air, so she can recuperate from what he calls a "temporary nervous depression – a slight hysterical tendency", a diagnosis common to women in that period. Gilman used her writing to explore the role of women in America at the time. She explored issues such as the lack of a life outside the home and the oppressive forces of the patriarchal society. Through her work Gilman paved the way for writers such as Alice Walker and Sylvia Plath. An important and historical feminist text
I wouldn't normally buy a physical book of a short story but this one is important to me and it was only $3!

Important Story, But Heavy and Dated
The Yellow Wallpaper is a classic with an important message about mental health and women’s rights, and the writing is undeniably atmospheric. That said, the story can feel slow and repetitive at times, and the 19th-century style makes it a bit harder to connect with for modern readers. It’s worth reading for its historical and literary significance, but it wasn’t as engaging as I had hoped.

Great read, weird format
The book is very slim and the introduction is upside down, however, the story itself was right side up so I could care less about the upside down introduction.

Great addition to your library
Great story. Hard to put down. Size, feel and readability all good (my eyes aren't what they used to be). Happy to have this in my library.

Good book quality, might come slightly bent but easy fix!
The book was amazing! Definitely a short read, this copy is only 15 pages, so it's good if you're trying to get back into reading. It's very thin, like a book you'd get in a high school English class for a project, and it even has pages for notes in the back and an explination of the book in the front. The only reason this is getting four instead of five is because the book itself was shipped in one of the bags, which makes sense due to how little it is. However, this did cause it to come a little bent up. Since its a thin book, it was easy to just leave under some other heavier books in order to flatten it out, so no harm seriously done. Attached pictures are of after I left it overnight under some books!

Short Story Madness <3
I love this short story, works on many levels. I love the extra pages at thw end because it is in old type English and I was able to write down words and definitions so it was a nice learning experience too. I have Bipolar and remembered reading this in English lit. class, it still speaks to me and I'm very happy that now I can own my own copy!

Amazing read!! 🙌🏻🙂↕️
I absolutely loved this book! Although short, the writing is beautiful. One of my favorite literary pieces. The deterioration of the main character truly captures the essence of how lacking our society is and has been when it comes to offering real help for individuals whose mental health is suffering. I definitely recommend if you have struggled with mental health issues 🤍✨
