### ⭐⭐ 2.0 out of 5 stars

    Really wanted to like.

I really like some of the "tactics" type games like the Advance Wars series, Fire Emblem, etc. I was really hoping for greatness here. For the most part it is. However, the tactics of the battles sometimes gets overshadowed by the ridiculous mini-games you have to endure to activate you special power cards. Overall I like the idea of the cards, combined with the tactical battles, but quickly tired of the mini-games. Eventually the mini-games overshadow the base game and become frantic pecking contests trying to swat a stupid fly or shuffle pucks around, or even just beating on the screen as fast as possible. Idiotic. They get more and more difficult to complete, until they eventually mostly fail. I also did not like putting the wear and tear on my poor DS' screen. As such, I will not be using this game much anymore. Such a shame the stupid mini-games were not optional, and you could actually focus on your strategies. Not every game has to be made for 7 year olds.

    Fun and challenging.

Drone Tactics starts off like most badly written games: with a stroyline that is very forgettable. However, don't let the storyline fool you. This is one game you shouldn't underestimate.I was intrigued by the fact that you can use bugs to battle, as opposed to more military based vehicles and aircrafts like in Advance Wars. I figured why not? So, I gave it a try and since then I have been pretty much hooked on the game. It's not like some other of these strategy based games where one of your members dies and you can never get them back. On the contrary, even if they die in battle they will still get EXP!Some battles can be very long depending on your current level but that's when the Badlands comes in. This is the place to train your "drones" so as to get more EXP, weapons, and cards. The badlands levels are quite challenging also and will definitely keep you entertained for hours. As for the sound and graphics, I would say the graphics are quite impressive and the fact that you can actually see your drones battling on the top screen on the DS is also pretty cool. The soundtrack is not too bad either. A lot of the music actually goes quite well with the levels and can be quite enjoyable. All in all Drone Tactics was a pretty good game and I recommend it to anyone who really enjoys strategy based games, since no else will probably enjoy it.

Good First Turn Based Strategy, Still Decent for TBS Veterans

*by B***R on Reviewed in the United States on December 11, 2017*

I rented this game when I was in middle school close to a decade ago, bought it from Amazon five years ago, and currently play an emulated version on my laptop from time to time.Pros: The graphics are good for a DS title even today. The game does a good job introducing mechanics to those unfamiliar with turn based strategy (TBS) and doesn't force you through a tutorial if you're not. The different species insect units are both unique and versatile, and the equipment and cards system are great tools for completing levels with completely different requirements. There are loads of different viable play styles for the campaign even on hard difficulty.Cons: The card minigames, while repetitive and slightly annoying on easy/normal mode, on hard mode they are completely impossible except for a screen tapping game in which a rumble motor will be your best friend. If you skip the story, you really aren't missing much. AI for computer allies and enemy "grunt" units are plain dumb.
