Epidemiology, 4th Edition

I bought this text as a required text for class this summer. Turns out that it is more useful than the slides/handouts from my class. The content is well written and flows well, making it easy for a beginner to grasp the key concepts. The author also writes in a interesting style which makes it very engaging. The illustrations are well chosen and complements the text wonderfully. The practice questions are tricky and great to test grasp of knowledge. I recommend this text fully. I tried the practice questions in the online access materials and they generally supplement what is in the textbook. Some typo/technical errors exists in the online questions though.

Great book

I bought this book for my coursework as an MPH student. I really enjoyed reading this book because it is a very easy read and the authors incorporate examples that make the concepts easy to learn. I found it to be extremely helpful. My professor did not assign the questions in the book for homework, but after reading a chapter, I always look at the questions to see if I can answer them. I love how this book has the answers in the back so that you check your understanding. Also, the figures presented throughout the chapter are all relevant and help to illustrate the concepts.

This book is easy to read and arranges the information in a format that holds your interest. Newer versions may be more helpful, but I had to purchase this as a required textbook for my graduate level public health course. It isn't overly complex or overly complicated...It is one of the few books that I feel was worth the money. I feel instructors should rely on this material more than other textbooks. If you don't want to spend the money to purchase this in paperback or hard cover - Amazon has a "rent" option that is very reasonable for this textbook. All textbooks these days should come with on-line study guides for students - we definitely pay enough for the textbooks and deserve to get as much support in understanding, retaining and applying the content as possible.

1. This is a great text for learning about the fundamentals of epidemiology. It's clear and concise. I give it 5 stars for being a great book. HOWEVER Like others have said, the Kindle version SUUUUUUUUUUUCKS. Do NOT waste your money on the kindle version. It's missing ~60% of the figures that are in the book. And really, you need those. I don't even know why they thought that this was an acceptable substitute to market, it's absolutely useless. I returned the Kindle version and bought a physical copy.

This book I needed it for a graduate course and help wonders. It is very detailed about the study of epidemiology. It teaches you the different analysis done to understand what is happenening in a certain populations if an outbreak would take place. Recommend and a good read if your just an enthusiast.

First, I must say that I really like the text of these book and find it easy to understand. However, I am disappointed with the e-book (Kindle) version of it. Many of the figures referred to in the text are not available for viewing in the electronic version. Also, several of the tables have incorrectly labeled columns, thus making it impossible to understand. I just found that for the review questions in chapter 12, a table is missing completely, making it impossible to complete 3 of the 9 questions presented. It is very disappointing that the quality of the e-book is so poor.

This text is an easy read and very informative. However, you can tell the book is written for advanced students. I recommend a supplemental introduction to epidemiology textbook if you are using this book for your first class in epidemiology.

Gute Einführung in die Epidemiologie, sehr anschaulich beschrieben mit vielen Beispielen und Grafiken. Gut lesbar. Mit Übungsaufgaben nach jedem Kapitel.

A really good introduction to epidemiology; well writen and easy to read. Covers most basic concepts and explains them in a way which is easy to understand. If you are new to epidemiology or public healt, or need a quick revision, this is the book to start with.

３－４年前に買ってましたが、時間が出来て、やっと読了しました。この本には電子書籍のコードがついており、それを使ってAndroid端末のアプリを使って読むことができます。すでに新版が出ていますが、アプリを使って読むと、最新版を読むことができました。これは嬉しい誤算でした。読む比べていくと、あまり内容としては変わっていませんでしたが、DNA関連の記述が結構新しく書き足されていました。なかなかオススメな本でしたが、トリプトファン事件に関しては結論が出てる様に書かれてましたが、あれちょっと違う気がします。

The BEST introductory textbook for a student in Epidemiology.Concepts are described in an easy-to-understand format with plenty of illustrations. Beyond Epidemiology students, I highly recommend this text for medical students and practitioners conducting research and those with a general interest in Epidemiology.
