I had trouble shopping too. The photo doesn't match my 30L, and there's no metric scale. On the left is inches. On the top is miles in 1:50,000 scale. On the right is miles in 1:24,000 scale. I like my compass and would recommend it. Hope this helps. **Q: Can you get rid of the silly (i.e. breakable) lanyard snap clip and tie the lanyard (or a piece of paracord) directly to the compass?** A: I have the snap clip on mine and it will take a lot of pull to get the clip to release. This is a safety feature and I would not disconnect it. Either that or use a cord that will break if an accident does happen.
