No, it's not large enough to drop the humidity much.The manufacturer changed the units in the description from sq ft to cubic feet to make the numbers appear 8x larger (for 8ft ceilings) vs traditinal units of sq ft that's been used for many years. When using normal units it's rated for ~ 275 sq ft. A traditional dehumidifier with a compressor could also use the same units. Those could say 17,600 to 24,000 cu feet (2000-3000 sq ft) then when using the same units. That's why no one uses sq yards or cubic meters either, it wouldn't look very impressive. Small Peltier dehumidifiers with 20 to 60 watts available can eventually work some in a small, closed off space.Otherwise if the room is connected with other rooms the humidity would come in faster than the small unit can keep up with. Full size units take 300-500 watts because they DO a lot more and are about 5x more efficient if we run the numbers. So in real life either one remove about half what their rating says. Removing 35 pints a day with a full size unit (those rated for 70 pints) is typically adequate to lower the humidity in a home by 20% in a few hours depending on local conditions and the type of home construction. A stone foundation allows a lot more water vapor through than a sealed concrete wall. Wet clay soil in a shady location also holds a lot more moisture than well drained sand in a sunny area, so local conditions can have a big effect. In conclusion:Yes, this products works a little. Just be aware that it would take 44 Ivation IVADM45's to equal ONE average 70 pint dehumidifier. The full size unit also takes 5x less power to do the same work. 44 IVADM45's at 60 watts each uses 2,400 watts total, vs 400-500 watts for a traditional 70 pint unit.I would expect the IVADM45 to eventually lower the humidity in an average house or room 1 -2% eventually, if it was left on forever and you kept emptying it. You'd have to have 10-20 of them to have much effect. A 70 pint unit would do more in 4 hrs than the small one does in a week. **Q: After a couple of months we now have mold in the water container. Any way to open it completely? We've tried, soap and hot water, no luck.** A: No, there is no way to open it completely. The weather in Arkansas can get brutally humid and the air in my bedroom has always felt heavy and stale (a fan didn't help at all). After several years of living there, I started noticing mildew spots that were concerning me. Cleaning them up was only going to be a temporary solution so I did some research and purchased the Ivation dehumidifier, which was listed on several reviews as being one of the best and was definitely the best buy for the money. I really thought I needed a bigger one but, frankly, I wasn't about to pay the high prices. I figured whatever this dehumidifier could do was better than nothing. Needless to say, I didn't have real high expectations.The first thing I noticed was that the look of it is pretty sleek and it turned out to be the perfect size for the spot I needed it in. I didn't really notice any difference in the air quality until the next morning... but, Wow... what a difference. The soft hum of the machine lulled me to sleep and for the first time in a long time I slept like a rock. The air literally felt lighter that next morning (even my dog slept in). The dishrag smell was gone, too. I couldn't believe it. I've had it for about a month now and I absolutely love it. I just keep it on because it turns itself off once it reaches the relative humidity I set it for (I'm originally from California, so I keep mine set to 45% RH).It may be important to note that it doesn't cool down the room any (but I never expected it to). It does, however, makes the heat bearable now that I'm not wearing the weather.I honestly can't imagine living without it now. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great for SMALL well sealed spaces *by M***N on July 1, 2024* I've used this in camper while it is in storage. Has worked great for that and only uses like $5 in electricity running non-stop in a month. Used it for two summers now. Removes about a quart of water a week.Where people are mistaken about this unit is using it in large rooms are rooms not well sealed. Its going to be useless in a shed that is full of air gaps. It is going to be useless in a room that is constantly having the door/windows opened.For reference, a central air conditioner removes GALLONS of water per day out of your average southern home. This unit is only capable of maybe a cup per day depending on the conditions. If your central A/C isn't removing enough moisture then this dehumidifier isn't going to fix that problem with its cup per day of capability. ### ⭐⭐⭐ Not very effective or quiet *by S***S on May 14, 2025* They're not kidding about 100 sq ft maximum. In this size room, starting at 60% RH, the unit condensed a cup of water every 2-3 days, lowering the RH by 2 percent compared to similar rooms in the house. So 58% instead of 60%. Not much different. The humidity control feature works, although the hygrometer reads 5 to 10% lower than other hygrometers. So to kick on at 50%, you need to set it for 40%. At a distance of 1 m, the fan noise is 46 dB (A-weighted). That's quieter than a compressor unit, but it's loud for such a small fan.
