Bear in mind, this isn't a project book, although it does provide several inspiration projects (and the book's website has links to projects made with EPP). It's a very comprehensive look at how to make and assemble EPP sections. The book also has a section devoted to coming up with your own designs. I've only just skimmed through the book, and I've already picked up a few helpful tips. I had recently purchased another book on EPP, and was hesitant to purchase this one, but now that I have it in my hands, I realize that the depth of the instructions and abundant photographs will make this my go-to book for any questions I may have about paper piecing. It's a great companion book to the EPP book I already own and I highly recommend it if you are interested in trying out EPP for yourself. You can jump right in with some of the smaller suggested projects (I am currently scanning the laundry pile to see if there is a towel for me to applique). The ones I purchased previously are more photo-spread and pattern oriented with some technique because, what is there to say about basting fabric around a template? Well, a lot. This book explains the different methods, the fiddly bits and how to join. I'm not thrilled with glue because, well, maybe I'm a snob or maybe I just hate having to stock up on glue, but the author includes this basting method with the same attention to detail as the others, making it accessible and usable by every EPP fan . I've been paper piecing for awhile and was able to refine and neaten up my piecing significantly. Yes, this is a book I bought and actually use. The resource list has mostly free goodies and some inexpensive products . This is is in keeping with the original piecers who were using up scraps by basting them around whatever paper was handy. Such a straightforward, easy reading book. When I found All Points Patchwork, I was amazed!! Ms. Gilleland has written a guide to EPP in a very easy to understand format. She explains the reasons behind doing things, and gives alternative ways wherever practical. Some people have complained that there aren't any actual patterns in the book. That may be true, but you're given such a thorough background, and so many ideas, by the time you're part way in, your mind will be racing with ideas! There are diagrams in the back with numerous shapes so you can photocopy, to print out your own templates. Everything you need to know to get started, and to progress to more complicated designs, is contained in this one volume!
