If you are having trouble connecting to internet after typing in your user name (ATT email) and password, you may have typed in your email password and not your network password. When I set up the modem and the set up wizard asked form my user name and password i typed in the email and email password, but I noticed that I could not connect to the internet. I decided to look around the actiontec settings page and figured I should replace the email password with the network password. After changing the password, I manage to connect to the internet.If you cannot connect to the internet after typing in your username and email password try this:1. type in 192.168.0.1 in the address bar of your internet browser2. go to the advanced setup tab--->Click Wan IP address---> Click yes to proceed--->then where it asks for your ppp password type in your network password and savecons:Firewall settings are somewhat hard to manage and by the firewall is disabled by default.If you don't know how to manage the firewall settings, you may not be able to download or access certain websites.pros:Constant connection and faster speed. Have not lost connection at all.cheaper price than the 2wire by attThis modem/router works perfect and i don't lose signal. I get relatively faster and constant speeds than with my 5 year old 2wire 27000 hg b gateway. Should I flip the switch at night to turn it off?Will it last longer if turn it off at night? ### ⭐ 1.0 out of 5 stars Won't work for VERIZON DSL Network printing *by R***N on Reviewed in the United States on January 18, 2010* I've been a Verizon DSL customer for several years. Since starting with Verizon I've been using the Actiontec GT704WG wireless modem/router that Verizon provided me with my initial order. It's worked flawlessly for years. We use both Mac and Windows PCs in our home and two Dell Network Printers. With the old Actiontec I'm able to connect the two network printers to the router and print from any computer in the house (we have six computers). I hooked up this new Actiontec GT724WGR and had no problems setting up the DSL and getting good internet access. It is, as most reviewers note, a very user friendly set up. However, even though my two printers were hooked up to the router and could be seen by all computers on the network I was unable to print to either of them unless I hard wired (connected them to the computer via USB cable). So, first I spent two hours on the phone with Dell and they went into one of my PCs via their on line PC access service and viewed everything, uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers, etc. Still the printers were viewable on the network but we could not print to them. After two hours on the phone with Dell we determined that the problem must be with the new Actiontec. I then telephoned Actiontec support. I spent maybe ten or fifteen minutes on the phone with what in my humble opinion is among the worst tech support there is. Their only plausible solution was that either my ethernet cables were bad or the modem/router was defective. I explained to the Actiontec support person that clearly the cables weren't bad because they were plugged in and the lights on the router indicated the connection. Furthermore, I explained that the printers were available on the network but just no longer worked. The best support option he could provide to me was to go back to the old modem and if it worked then I could deduce that there was something wrong with this modem. I then decided a call to Verizon Tech support was in my best interest. I had spoken to them recently about the old modem because our new Apple laptops were not able to connect wirelessly. They told me this was a known issue with the older Actiontec GT704WG and that a new GT704WG is available and they sell it and support it. So, now I'm back to my original modem because that's the only way I can print from all computers. I have a 100 foot ethernet cable that I hook up to my new Apple laptop so I can connect via hardwire. I think my best and perhaps only solution is to buy the new Actiontec GT704WG router modem as, according to Verizon, it has a firmware upgrade which will work with the new Apple laptops and, if purchased from Verizon directly, they will support it.If anybody out there can give me a solution to this network printing problem I hope you comment on this review. As today is Martin Luther King Day, a USPS holiday, I will not be sending the item back until tomorrow.I purchased this from Buy.com through Amazon's Website and am returning it for a full refund including prepaid return shipping. I will add that Buy.com immediately sent me a UPS prepaid shipping label so I will give them a five star rating for their customer service.Prior to ordering this item I read every review at Amazon's Website about this DSL router/modem and how great it is. Only one reviewer mentioned a printing problem. All the rave reviews about this product seemed to be restricted to its ease of set up and ability to get a good DSL internet connection. If all you care about is a good DSL internet connection then those reviews are are worthwhile for you. But if you're a Verizon DSL customer and you're accustomed to network printing with your wireless modem/router, this product will not work for you. At least is didn't for me and neither Dell, Verizon, or Actiontec's support could get it to work. Finally, Actiontec's support is LESS than 1 star! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.0 out of 5 stars Good product with minor glitches, so-so support *by T***Y on Reviewed in the United States on September 22, 2009* Purchased this as a replacement for an old Verizon Westell 327w DSL modem. Our network is mixed with one PC running Windows Vista and several Macs, including Intel and PowerMac wired desktops and wireless laptops, all running the current version of Leopard OS (10.5.8).Setup was quick and easy and everything worked -- at first.I had a five year old Wireless Repeater that I tried to setup with the Actiontec but I was never successful. After giving up, I discovered my wired computers (Macs and the PC) were no longer able to see the network. Tried rebooting the router via power switch and via software using the browser interface, disconnecting and reconnecting all cables, etc. -- nothing worked.Actiontec support answered right away but groaned when I mentioned we had Macs. I told him that the PC didn't work either and after a few obvious questions about our setup, told me that the problem was the computers, not the Actiontec. I was in disbelief. Logic dictated that FOUR different computers, one of which had a different architecture and operating system, could not all be malfunctioning at once - especially since they all worked before. He told me that the Actiontec would not work with any device that boosted or distributed the wireless signal. OK, I messed up -- it says that in the manual and FAQ. But I insisted that the WIRED computers shouldn't be having the problem since I had only changed the wireless network preferences, and wireless still worked. Nope, he said, it's your computers, call HP and Apple and hung up.I was planning to return the Actiontec to Amazon (despite their accompanying warning card that says don't return it to the place you bought it, just call support -- oh yeah, sure, that's what I did).Long story short, I used a pencil to manually press the recessed reset button on the back of the router. I had tried this before to no avail but this last time I removed all cables. I held it in until the power light changed from flashing green to amber and then went back to the Quick Setup wizard in the browser interface using my laptop. I then re-inserted all the cables and now everything is working again.We had a brief power outage this morning during a thunderstorm that also brought the wired network down. This time simply powering the Actiontec off and on and rebooting the wired computers brought them back -- oddly, wireless worked before the reboot but wired didn't.MODEM = five stars for simple interface, quick setup and solid connectionsWIRED ROUTER - two to three stars - seems flakyWIRELESS ROUTER - four stars, better signal distance than the old Westell modemSUPPORT - one to two stars, may be two stars for Windows but 0 stars for Mac. Might depend on the support person you get.One last hint/observation. In the advanced setup page there is a popup mode button that defaults to MMODE for Verizon.
