and love them, but with a change in my cycle ...
I've been a huge fan of non disposable menstrual products for years, I've used Party in My Pants Pads, and love them, but with a change in my cycle had started to experience some leaking issues. I was hesitant to buy this product considering the financial outlay, because I'd tried the Diva cup and had been unable to even insert it. But I read that this was more flexible than the diva cup and decided to take the risk. Best. Decision. Ever. I'm half way through my second cycle with the Lunette, and all those reviews about it being a game changer are 100% on the mark. As others have and will say, there is a learning curve and it takes some determination and familiarity with your body. I ended up cutting off the entire stem to make it comfortable, in retrospect, I was a bit hasty in doing so and wish I would have experimented a little more before doing so, as it's complicated retrieval somewhat, but that's a mild irritation given how amazing this product is. This will probably be TMI, but I read all the reviews looking for a thorough one from someone who was in the same boat I was: a virgin who hasn't used tampons much. In other words, not at all used to having anything "up there". Like I said, I was totally unable to insert the diva cup, it was too painful. This cup folds much smaller. The first time using it was, unsurprisingly, painful, but doable. I use the "tulip" fold and it seems to work really well. I have no problem what-so-ever with it not opening up once it's inside. Extracting in the first few times was... rough. After one cycle, I wasn't sure I was going to be able to use it on a regular bases. Necessity forced my hand, though, and I tried it again this cycle. It's going much better. I still experience a little discomfort with insertion and retrieval, but it's mild and totally tolerable, and once it's in, I don't feel it at all. I use the smaller option for the obvious reasons, and seem to have to change it every 6 hours or so on my heaviest days, but so far I've experienced zero leaking. (( as a side note: For anyone who's looking for reusable pads, as, say, a panty liner for safety sake with your cup, I strongly recommend Party In My Pants pads http://partypantspads.com they're absolutely the best, and super adorable. Great company, great product. That's what got me started on non disposable menstrual products. )) In conclusion: This cup is perfect for the novice, don't give up, it is so worth the initial discomfort! Good luck ladies!

Great Product
*Warning this review is a bit graphic* Okay I feel like it is a feminine product I need to be 100% honest in every area. Firs off it is very flexible and I had no issues inserting or removing the cup. I watched reviews on various cups and read more and was a bit intimidated at first but once the packaged arrived and I played with it a bit in my hands it no longer was intimidating. I could tell that it suctioned properly just by feeling with my fingers. Yes you have to know a bit about your anatomy to know if this product is in right. Once I got use to how it is suppose to be inserted I was confident that it was suctioning properly. To break the suction I just had to pinch the bottom. Now I was using tampons before and removing them hurt because even though they were full my vaginal walls were dry so it would pretty much rip at them. This product does not dry out the walls of the vagina and it comes out quite easily once the suction is broke. If the suction isn't broke then the thing isn't moving. I have had no leakage but I do have to wear a liner as there is still blood on the walls of my vagina in-between uses. Even if it is just for cleaning the product and re-inserting. So for just very slight spots you do need a panty liner. When I mean slight I mean very light. Like one to two light spots. Only reason why you need them is to not ruin your panties. It wont stain through your jeans or skirt that is now light the spots are. Now this product is not for the squeamish. I hope I didn't run those people away yet from the graphic warning because those people need to know this. Unlike the tampon you don't throw this in the trash or wrap it in a napkin so you can't see it. You pour it out in the toilet and while there is still bits of menstrual fluid in it you wash it and clean it so it is sanitary. You can't get everything out by pouring it out. Also when I took it out it brought with it a string of menstrual gunk that was still not all the way bled out, so I had to wipe that away. I also had to really make sure the holes that are there for suction was clean too. So if you can't handle seeing blood or any bodily fluids this is not for you. So the pros: *Reusable *Quite sanitary as you don't have to keep any nasty stuff in the trash to smell and such *Easy to insert and remove *Isn't painful really. Removing was maybe a 1 at the entrance of the vagina as I have not had kids but it is nothing compared to removing tampons. *Small and easily stored *Can't feel it when it's in *No leaking *Can wear it longer than tampons *No real risk of TSS unlike tampons Cons: *You do have to touch trace amounts of your fluids to clean it, but to me that is not really a con but for some it might be. You could wear gloves though if needed lol Oh and btw today I wore it for 10 hours and it wasn't even half way full and this day is suppose to be one of my heaviest. I usually wore super tampons on my two heaviest days and I would go though quite a few during the day. Today I walked the dog about 3 miles, Kayaked, and carried heavy stuff up and down 5 flights of stairs. So you can be active with this thing and not worry about it. The day before that I ran some in the mountains. So no leaks or any issues for those who are active and wondering. I would recommend this product to others if: 1. They are not squeamish. 2. They know their anatomy or are willing to get use to it 3. They have had sex before(I could see this being an issue for a virgin who has an intact hymen)

Lifechanging! Been using this for 4+ years...
I've used this product at least once a month for the last 4+ years, and I tell all my menstruating friends about it! What I love about it: The list goes on and on. I love how comfortable it is; unlike a tampon, I don't really feel this at all when I'm wearing it. I ride my bike, run, sleep, swim, do Yoga/Pilates, etc., while wearing it. I forgot to throw it in my bag one day and borrowed a tampon in a pinch, and didn't realize how comfortable the flexible medical-grade silicone is until using a stiff wad of bleached cotton. Night and day difference; I'm never going back! I also love that I can wear it for up to 12 hours with minimal risk of TSS (Toxic Shock Syndrome) as compared to traditional tampons. (Part of this is because I tend to be lazy and forgetful about changing it, or I get busy and can't drop what I'm doing every four hours to find a restroom). Unlike cotton products like tampons, medical-grade silicone menstrual cups do not absorb your body's natural mucous and dry you out. Tampons do - and then they can start chafing against the vaginal wall, creating micro-cuts through which bacteria can grow and enter. That's why it's recommended to change tampons every 4-6 hours, to change up the environment and reduce the likelihood of harmful bacteria growing in a used tampon. But these are comfortable and flexible, so because they aren't drying out and chafing the vagina, they can be worn longer. However, it's still recommended to change it every 12 hours to reduce the risk of bacteria growth that can build up over time. There has only been one case of TSS while using a menstrual cup, due to the user accidentally creating a small abrasion during one of her initial uses of the cup. However, with normal and healthy usage, the risk of contracting TSS with a medical-grade silicone menstrual cup is significantly lower than when using conventional menstrual products such as tampons. I also like that I can insert the menstrual cup before I'm about to menstruate because it doesn't chafe or dry me out. So if I know I'm about to start my period on a Tuesday, I can insert it before I leave for work in the morning and it'll take care of me all day. I feel like my cramps are less intense with it too. Environmental/Financial/Other Factors: The average woman/menstruating person produces 1 ton of used menstrual products in their lifetime. Because this is reusable, I don't have to throw away so much waste anymore. Just boil in between periods, and it's good to go! Financially/conveniently, it's a bit of an investment, but I haven't bought any other menstrual products in the 4+ years I've been using it - and it's always on hand. No more surprise spotting and runs to the store! Further, I've heard it's helpful for trans folks who might need to change menstrual products in a restroom that doesn't have access to trash cans or proper disposal, and they may not want to open a crinkly plastic product. This is much more discreet! The few things I don't like about it: the bottom section of the cup was a bit long and annoyed me, so I cut a cm or two off so there's still something to pinch onto in order to remove. A size 1 fits my flow perfectly. However, I've heard from folks with heavier flows that a size 1 almost overflows on their heaviest days. One of the differentiating factors for Models 1 & 2 (at least when I bought it in 2013) was that Model 1 was intended for people who haven't experienced childbirth, while Model 2 is intended for those who have. I have not used a Model 2, though it seems a little bit larger than Model 1. Not sure how comfortable Model 2 is, but Model 1 fits very well for me both physically and volume-wise. If you have a heavier flow, you might need to change more often than every 12 hours. If you do need to change it more often than every 12 hours, it's a bit harder to do in a public restroom with stalls, since it's recommended to rinse out with water in between uses before re-inserting to ensure the suction holes under the rim are clear to re-suction. Friends who have had to change it in public said wiping off with paper towels or toilet paper worked for them.

Great product, takes some time to learn
I've been intrigued about menstrual cups for a year or so and finally took the plunge and bought one. I did some research on the various types of menstrual cups and decided on the Lunette because it seemed the smallest and I liked the idea of the stem being shorter (more on that in a little). My flow isn't heavy - I only use light tampons - so I bought model 1. I'm in my early 20s, no kids. There is definitely a learning curve to using this product. For my first cycle using it, I only used it when I was at home and could adjust, take my time getting it in, etc. It was a bit tricky getting it inside on the first try, but by the end of my cycle, it was no problem. I found it easiest to put it while standing up. After a few minutes of wearing it, I no longer really feel it inside me and sometimes forget its in there! I still wear a liner while wearing the cup, but that's more out of paranoia. I have note experienced any leaking at all (not a single spot!) so I'm sure I'll stop wearing the liners over time. I've worn it at home, at work, at the gym, in bed, and always feel comfortable. Going to the bathroom is no problem - it is separate holes after all. I feel some pressure on the cup when I pee, but the cup doesn't move. Taking the cup out is certainly the hardest part. This is where I regret getting a cup with a shorter stem, as I guess I misjudged the size of my cervix. After a few hours of wearing the cup, it seems to travel 'up' a little, so I have to reach in quite a bit to pull the cup out. Once I get a good grip on the stem, the cup just pops out, but it certainly makes the whole process messier than it might be for others. Also, the first few times I tried to take it out, I was convinced it was stuck inside me and started freaking out., which didn't make it any easier! After calming myself down, I realized it was a heck of a lot easier to get the cup out while sitting (as opposed to standing like when putting it in). When taking the cup out the first few times, take a few deep breaths and relax. You WILL get it out! To clean the cup, I first tip the contents in the toilet and then go to the sink and rinse the cup in cold water. I'm hesitant to have to deal with this while in public/at work, but thankfully I don't need to change the cup too many times during the day. I change the cup in the morning, after work, and before bed. But again, my flow is quite light (thank you birth control). Before my cycle starts and after the last day, I boil the cup in water for 5 minutes to sanitize it. Overall, I really like using the cup and recommend those who are curious to just give it a try. It is a lot more comfortable than tampons/pads and I'm not constantly worried about leaking throughout the day. Even if you don't experience the too-short-stem issue like me, there's a lot more touching than with tampons/pads. If that makes you uncomfortable, a cup may not be for you. In time, I may try a different cup with a longer stem, but for now, I'm happy with my Lunette! While the initial cost may seem steep, it will soon pay for itself now that I've stopped buying tampons and pads. And with the cup, I don't have to stock my car, desk at work, purse, gym bag, etc. with tampons, liners, and pads 'just in case' or worry about being somewhere without a tampon when I need to change it. The cup has made my period so much simpler! Now if only it cured those mood swings.... :)

GREAT!
I just finished my first cycle using this Lunette cup and thought it'd be a good time to post a review. Overall Experience: On the day I knew my period was coming, I was able to put the cup in and leave in all day just in case! It was great not having to worry about it or checking all the time to see if it was time to put a tampon in. On the second day, when it had actually started flowing, I wore the cup for about 6-7 hours and it worked great! No leaks at all! I was like WOW, do I already have this down? (I read A LOT of reviews and most said there is a learning curve, which I do agree with, but I was surprised at how easily I got it!) On the third day, which is probably my heaviest, I wore the cup for about 9 hours and it didn't leak once again! I was still so surprised. On the fourth day, this is when it all changed. This day is heavy too and a few hours after putting it in, it didn't feel quite right down there so I checked it out and it leaked! Yes leaked! I was freaked out because I was at work and there was blood everywhere (sorry, TMI). Since I was freaked out I wasn't able to reinsert it so for the time being I had to put a tampon in (which I hated doing, I could already tell the difference and I hated it!) On the last day, I was determined to make it work again since it worked so well in the beginning... And it did! I wore it for 11 hours with no leaks at all. Woohoo! Insertion/Removal: So far I have found the recommended "C" fold to work best for me even though it is a little wide (I am not a virgin so that may help). It pops open really easy! Plus I don't feel it at all, it's SO much more comfortable than a tampon. I ran 2 times while the cup was in and it worked great still but it did work itself up pretty far and at first I freaked out but did the "bearing down" technique and it wiggled down. To remove it I just always pinch the bottom and wiggle it and then take it out. So I never had a problem removing it or it getting stuck. I also never found it too terribly messy. Seal/Position: So the key is to get it in the correct position and to make sure it is "sealed". I am pretty sure the day it leaked I accidentally inserted it too far up and it wasn't sealed all the way. So it should sit LOW! I still have the stem on mine (doesn't bother me!) and it does stick out a little or you can feel it right inside. It is hard to turn it completely to seal it, I just tend to wiggle it up and down and make sure it's open (sometimes it feels flat to me but still works!) and then I tug on the stem and if it doesn't budge then it's sealed! I recommend wearing a liner at first just in case (that's what I did) and eventually once I get the technique down 100% I will stop wearing a liner. I still give this cup a 5 star rating even though I did have that bad leaking experience because overall it was so great! I will never go back to tampons!

Tip: get this if you're nervous and new. Read review for major tips.
This is the first cup I've ever bought. If I can do it, anyone can. I've been wearing a tampon for years but I just hate the leaking, the trash it creates. I have a bit of heavy flow especially days 2,3. I never thought I'd be able to fit a cup because even tampons hurt sometimes...but I was convinced by all the benefits: you're dealing with clean blood that doesn't oxidize, no more purchases, no more trash (something that I worry about when visiting other people), it can be inside 12 hours! It almost sounds too good to be true. I ordered same day delivery and chose this brand because I've read Size 1 from Lunette is meant for younger women and the cup is smaller & made of softer silicone. I tried it yesterday on the 2nd day of my period. I did a lot of research while waiting for it to arrive and read tips like using the triangle fold and put it on in the shower or have one foot on the bathtub. I tried those tips and now I can tell you my experience and advice: 1) tried in the shower for lubrication. After some time, could not get it in all the way but it formed a some sort of vacuum. It was like halfway in. Used C fold because that's all it came with. Must've been very lucky on my first try because it didn't leak, the blood filled the cup when it came time to change, and had a very positive first time. 2) The times after that, I leaked and never got it sealed as good as the first time. Including overnight. Note that it's my fault, couldn't insert fully so these were shallow seals. 3) It made me determined to try to use other folds and really push it in. Because I didn't like the idea of having to remove it every time I pee cause the cup is hanging out. I want to keep it as sanitary as possible! So, on my 2nd day of use (3rd day on period), I'm typing this after two successful full-on inserts. It really works! The first time I had to remove it from all the way inside was kind of scary. But I kept tugging at the strip until the cup base moved down enough for me press down on one side of the cup and break suction. From there, it's quite easy to grab hold of the cup and take out. Before trying, I was also worried about tipping the cup when taking out but it's actually not the case since it's easy to grip the cup and push the edges inward. Here's what worked for me: Fold: I'm staying with C fold because it is the easiest to unravel INSIDE. The triangle or point fold is the easiest to get inside but hard to unfold. The first time I got the cup fully inside was using the triangle fold. But my problem with it is that I couldn't get the cup to unravel and form a suction. What really works is to do the C-fold but hold it like a U. Hold the cup slightly at an angle so the bottom part of the U (not the two ends) is like a point. And insert that point first. Trust me, it's way easier. Angle: if you're having trouble pushing that in, keep adjusting the angle. Similar to tampons, once you have the right angle, it'll keep going in. And once you get it a few times, you'll just "know". Position: just sitting on the toilet was easiest for me which is great news. Anything elaborate like one foot on tub or squatting didn't help me. Suction: if you feel it's folded when it's inserted, what I do is tug it downwards slowly until it pops into shape. At the same time, I rotate or shimmy the cup to help if it's extra stubborn. You can always push it further in. Strip: if you're new. Don't cut it. You'll need every last cm to tug it out unless you want to dig dig dig. Lastly: I bought some thinx underwear before this cup and still haven't gotten in the mail yet. I think I'll be solid for years just using this and the thinx as backup for leaks. Also, will buy a little steamer for sanitizing the cup and wipes to carry around with me for public bathrooms. Someone suggested grabbing wet paper towels before heading into the stall and that's a great idea if you forget the wipes. Sorry for the tmi, long review but I'm just elated. This is life-changing. I mean I really feel like a new woman who doesn't have to be insecure or feel inconvenienced at having a monthly flow. And this was such a scary concept for me. I wanted to share in case this helps anyone who is borderline or new because think of all the unsanitary trash we'll be reducing if all women switched to cups!!

Awesome and easily used. GET IT
People are not lying when they say that this product is life changing! My flow is very inconsistent, some days are really heavy and some are super light and there's just no way for me to predict when that will be so I would sometimes remove a tampon after several hours that was nowhere near saturated, that would irritate the tissues and feel very uncomfortable. I also would often feel tampons while wearing them and hated it. I also can't stand pads because they feel like a hot, sweaty sauna down there. So I thought I was stuck with tampons and the uncomfortable threat of TSS hanging over my head. Thankfully one day I decided to ask Google if there were other options and lo-and-behold I discovered the menstrual cup. I only wish I had known about it sooner!!! After quite a bit of research and review reading I decided on the lunette because it seemed somewhat narrower and easier to clean. It has been pretty awesome. People talk about the learning curve and it's true one exists, but it really only took me a couple tries to get the hang of it, not several months. The design is great and learning different folds for insertion really helps. The fold they tell you to use on the box isn't the best for everyone. The one that works best for me is the Origami fold. Some people talk about using it in public restrooms as a problem, but I just bought a small squirt bottle to keep (empty) in my purse that I fill up with water before I enter the stall and can use that to rinse it before putting it back in. I also keep a small pouch of disposable wet-wipes in my purse to clean off my fingers and dispose of those in the tampon box in the stall. Easy peasy, and the wipes and bottle take up less room in my purse than the tampons and pantiliners that I used to carry around with me all the time! Over the long run these are so much cheaper, easier and more user friendly, not to mention earth friendly, than other options. I seriously wish everyone knew about them haha I know they might not be the best option for everyone, but I feel like a lot more people would use them if they knew they existed! If you're having doubts I would just go for it, I haven't regretted leaving tampons and pads behind one bit!! **One side note** I did a "dry run" I.E. I put it in before my period to try and get a feel for it. (You're vaginal canal and uterus are shaped slightly differently when you're on your period so dry run is not all that helpful, though it went in just fine) I didn't put it in necessarily correctly and the cup migrated upward and got pretty well suctioned to my cervix. I couldn't feel any discomfort, but when I tried to remove it it was much farther up and breaking the suction seal was slightly uncomfortable and I could only grab the bare end of the little handle, which was slippery so I couldn't pull. BUT you don't need to go to a doctor if this happens! IT WILL COME OUT. Relax, breathe, get in a nice bath and bear down as if you're trying to have a bowel movement. The muscles will begin to push the cup downward then you can SLOWLY wiggle it downward until it comes out. If this happens to you you're best option is to remain calm. If you panic your muscles tense up around it and it gets stuck even worse. Trust me, you'll be just fine and the cup is STILL better than tampons.

Greatest invention for women! Get one!!!
Lunette menstrual cup review in 10 words: Greatest product for women. Clean, simple and easy. Get one! Here are the details: The Lunette menstrual cup has completely changed the process of getting my period. I feel a little silly going on and on about a menstrual cup, but that's how wonderful it is. I wish I knew about these 20 years ago! I could have saved so much money, not to mention so many clothes that were ruined from leaking tampons and pads. - It was easy to use. - It was super clean, NOT messy. It's not even a problem when changing it. - It didn't leak for me - not even once. For the first time in my life, I'm not even wearing a pad or pantyliner because I have no fear of leaks. I can throw out all of my ugly "period underwear!" - It saves money. I don't have to throw away $5 or more every single month on disposable products! - It's comfortable to wear. - You get used to inserting it very quickly. By the 2nd day, it was 2nd nature. - For me, the Lunette cup reduced cramping. No more missing out on activities because my cramps are too bad. - It ended the pain of dryness. Tampons are drying and irritating for me. - It helps the environment because you aren't disposing of tampons, applicators and pads. - It makes it so simple because you don't have to carry tampons and pads with you everywhere. You always have protection. - You can put in the Lunette at the first sign you're going to have your period soon so that you won't stain your clothing, whereas you can't put in a tampon in advance. - It comes in awesome colors. Here are the downsides: - It can be a little tricky to change in a public restroom. You'll want to carry bottled water in with you to rinse it out. - The price is a bit higher than other menstrual cups. But it was so worth it, the carrying case is very cute, and I can tell it's a really high-quality product. How did I choose this model? I chose this size because I have a low cervix. For the women out there so you'll know about size, I can't wear the Tampax brand because they are too long, and the softcup disposable cups were way too big and leaked like crazy. I did a lot of research before I bought my menstrual cup, and I knew other cups would be too long for me. The Lunette Size 1 Model is the PERFECT size for me even though I have never had a child and have heavier flow early in my period. I just make sure to rinse it out every 3-4 hours or so on my very heaviest day. Other tips: Watch some of the YouTube videos about insertion and removal. It's really easy. You can trim the stem to your preference. I would advise you to NOT trim the stem the first time you wear it and wait until you're a little more used to inserting it. I trimmed it right away and wish I had left it a little longer.
