Unfortunately, my application required driving a 74HC buffer IC that has 10K pull-down resistors at the inputs. So the 5v outputs drop to about 2.6v creating an intermittent response. Adfruit's documentation is to give you a copy of TI's specification sheet. No mention as to what the function of the OE pin is (it is covered in the TI spec).
