Very nice, just don't over-cook
I cooked up the bag of "beef" slices in two batches. I haven't found a recipe that says how long to cook them, so I've been experimenting. The first batch I rehydrated for 30 minutes and then cooked for two and a half minutes in the microwave at full power with some of the water that I had rehydrated the slices in. They were tough as could be. So I experimented, taking the cooked slices and cooking them at half power for 10 minutes and in a barbecue sauce, hoping that, like beef from a cow, they would break down after low temp slow cooking. But they were just as tough after that. So I refrigerated them, and after they were chilled, sliced them very thin against the grain, and reheated them. They were acceptable. The second batch was rehydrated for 30 minutes in vegetable stock and then frozen. Once frozen, I sliced them against the grain and cooked them for 2 minutes on full power in the microwave. They came out tender! It would be so very helpful if cooking times and temps and recipes were available on the web, and or the back of the bag. Other than that, I think this product is just wonderful. Definitely has the mouth-feel of meat and, with the right amount of cooking, the tenderness of a round steak. Perfectly useful for recipes that don't require the meat to be heated for a long time.

Amazing vegan beef!
I gave up meat some 25 years ago and I don't miss it, but it's nice to be able to make the meals I used to eat growing up for my family. I can't really say how beef like the taste is, but the texture is really good, it tastes amazing, it's very low calorie and completely cruelty free. I softened it in boiling water and cooked in a sauce (vegan Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, liquid smoke, toasted sesame oil, ginger, date sugar, chili flakes, chopped garleek). I will be purchasing more, I wish they had bulk option.

This will be my new staple!
Way, way better than expected! I have never really made my own tvp ”meat” before. I usually buy a tiny expensive pack (already hydrated and seasoned) as a treat now and then to cook something I used to love before I was vegan. This was delicious! I soaked them in water for 20 minutes. Then I squeezed the water out and pan fried them with some sweet and smoky seasoning. This is a great cost-effective way to have a protein with your meal if you’re tired of beans and nuts. I’m going to make a “roast beef” sandwich with these next.

Delicious find for a vegan!
This is ready in about 10-15 minutes of soaking in warm water. Once I squeeze the excess water out it is perfect for banh mi, stir fry, pad Thai, ramen, you name it. The texture is fantastic and the closest I have come to beef without any weird smell or sponginess. Thank you for such a great pantry product!

Didn’t like
The taste was too elaborate, like I was eating some gum or something. Protein was good, took my hunger away .

Great substitute
My wife is vegan and I’ve been cooking for her for about 10 years now. This is our favorite substitute meat, and I’ve used many of them. I reconstitute with some boiled consume or vegetable bullion. You can bread it or sauté it in a pan before adding flavors. It cooks like most meat substitutes in that it takes on the flavors you cook it with. One bag gets her maybe 8-10 meals if cooked with rice and/or vegetables.

Excellent, real-beef texture vegan product. Highly recommended
I used this Textured Vegetable Protein product to make Italian beef in the crock pot for sandwiches and it turned out perfectly. The texture is spot on and the faux beef slices absorb the flavors perfectly and reheat well for leftovers. You can use this for faux Philly cheesesteaks, beef-topped pizzas, chopped beef/better-than-manwich sandwiches and a host of other recipes. I rehydrated them using veggie broth for 20 minutes (after boiling the broth and then leaving the beef slices in it to cool on the stove). Highly recommended.
