## Description

Thanks to the revolution in affordable recording and mixing technology, more music is being written, produced, and mixed today than ever before. The mixer's art is now a unique blend of time-tested principles and skillful technique using the latest high-tech tools. If you're ready to learn today's art of mixing, this is the book for you. THE MIXING ENGINEER'S HANDBOOK, 3RD EDITION, is the latest update of the most popular book on audio mixing ever written (more than 150,000 copies sold). Popular producer/engineer, author, and teacher Bobby Owsinski covers all the fundamentals, breaking the mixing process down into easily understandable elements. He covers the things you need to know most, including the variety of mixing styles, the six elements of a mix, the rules for arrangement, and how to build a mix. You'll also learn the secrets of equalization and "magic frequencies," along with easy-to-grasp methods for adding effects, EQ'ing reverbs, sonic layering, calculating delay time, and much more. In addition to the solid instruction in today's mixing principles, you'll also find great advice in Bobby's interviews with top mixing engineers and producers. Getting a great mix is no accident; it requires a thorough knowledge of the fundamentals of the art. Read THE MIXING ENGINEER'S HANDBOOK to learn how it's done.

Review: Belongs in every mixer's studio - As much as I've learned about engineering through various sources (internet, friends, colleagues, etc), this book is still the most comprehensive one-stop-shop for mixing! All the pro techniques are here. I've briefly thumbed through version 2 and this book does a great job of updating itself for modern times - ie, in the box mixing with plugins and everyone going more digital than analog. The great thing is, all the old concepts still apply today and Bob does a great job at pointing that out. With mixing, details matter - the more minute the more important. This handbook points out a LOT of details that you'll frequently go back to while mixing. I've been leaving the book open and referencing it while I mix, since there are always new things to learn and new approaches to try. The interviews he has with the big mixing legends are great and they come in & out with relevant topics so you can get a fresh perspective on what the pros do on a particular topic. Well written with a wealth of information. Everyone mix engineer should have one, student or otherwise!
Review: As Good As It Gets - I've read three excellent books so far, this being the most recent. Mike Stavrou's "Mixing With Your Mind" really opened up my understanding of the importance of listening; make no mistake, however, there is plenty of technical and cerebral information there (the best compressor set-up explanation I've seen), but it laid a foundation that I don't think can be gotten anywhere else, except perhaps if I had been lucky enough to sit alongside of someone like Stav. I can't stress enough what Stav's book brought to the table as both a philosophical foundation and technical knowledge, he has a unique way of painting a picture that is exceptional. I next read Mike Senior's "Mixing Secrets", which took me to an amazing level of practical knowledge in all respects of mixing. Too quantify what I learned from Mike Senior would take a book in itself, trust me, you want his book, and you equally want Bobby Owsinski's. Bobby Owsinski's "The Mixing Engineer's Handbook" is in the same vein as Mike Senior, but with a different slant of approach and technical knowledge, and it brought a rounding of the big picture. I can't say one is better than the other, the value Mike Senior and Bobby Owsinski brought as a whole is the point and these two books complement each other perfectly. Owsinksi's interviews with the "best of the best" in the business he provides in the last section of the book is packed with practical knowledge and the generous sharing of information by those individuals cannot be overstated. It's probably the best "interview" format I've seen, truly practical information and philosophy you can use. A huge thanks to Mike Stavrou, Mike Senior and Bobby Owsinski, these guys love what they do, they're about the love, and it shows.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Extremely useful and..
*by W***K on September 28, 2014*

Pretty Amazing! The tips, tricks, the techniques, the mindset, and best of all, lots of information you can put to use immediately. Highly recommended. This is the fourth book I've bought on the subject and by far the most useful in terms of demystifying the process and giving you a whole toolbox of techniques that are useful and effective. No filler or fat here, just meat. Worth its weight in gold...or maybe platinum. Been making CDs since 2002 and just flying by the seat of my pants but with this book under my belt, confident that my next release is going to be much more highly advanced and shockingly good. Buy with confidence!
