Review: Contemporary material, classic Celine - What an amazing achievement! Celine has been guided and mentored by Rene (for her entire career) since she was 14 years old and she is now 51. This is her first album EVER without his guidance and input. It’s an incredible achievement and an amazing album. Must have taken a lot of courage for her to record this. Celine has resisted the temptation to do ‘more of the same’ and has embraced contemporary material and writers. I have had to listen to the album a good few times to appreciate how she has grown. I am a huge fan of the power ballad so loved ‘Lying Down’ on first hearing, many of the others have taken more time to grow on me. Just look at the titles of the songs to realise that Rene is still present and is the thread that runs through every track. Thank you Celine for another opportunity to listen to your amazing voice. 16 tracks also, far better value than most artists offer. Thank you for doing what you do best. I can safely say that it did not disappoint at all in fact I think I now love this amazing woman even more! I have to say that you can really hear and feel the emotion in Celine's voice which is what she does effortlessly, her voice has always been amazing but I now think it's absolutely incredible. There is honestly not one bad song, a good mixture of fast and slow. But my personal favourites are: Lying Down, Baby, Imperfections, Perfect Goodbye, Heart Of Glass (only on deluxe edition), Courage, Lovers Never Die, Change My Mind, The Hard Way, Boundaries (both The Hard Way and Boundaries from deluxe edition), How Did You Get Here & Flying On My Own.
