## Overview

The Pelican Accessories Versus Controller for Xbox 360 is an officially licensed gaming controller featuring an arcade-style micro-switch fighting pad, a 6-button layout, and an ergonomic grip designed for optimal comfort and control during intense gaming sessions.

## Description

The Versus Fighting Pad is a wired six-button face controller that is specifically designed for AAA fighting games on the Xbox 360 and classic games that are featured on Xbox Live. Just like an actual arcade machine, micro switch activators have been used for the thumb stick and the front 6 buttons to give you that true arcade feel and accuracy when playing fighting games with this controller. The thumb stick is custom designed and constructed to act like a real arcade joystick but with the more comfortable and compact feel of a thumb pad. The 2 x 3 action button facing is ideal for all of the AAA fighting game titles out there, making the Versus Fighting Pad the ultimate choice for fighting games.

Review: Lots of bang for the buck, lots of click too! - First off, yes this works on Windows 10. No problem whatsoever once it was securely plugged into my PC's USB port. Now, as others note you wouldn't want this for anything but fighting games and old school games that don't use analog sticks or triggers. That stick you see on this controller is not an analog stick; It's a series of microswitches that reads on the PC (and I assume on the Xbox 360) as a POV Hat or D-Pad. This means it's perfect for pulling off complex arcade-style moves as in most fighting games. Add to that the micro-switch buttons and the fact that this is strictly a wired controller, and you have a very responsive gamepad, indeed! However, be aware it's not a quiet gamepad, either! Those microswitches make clicks that you'll feel and hear. The "back" (select) and "start" buttons are up on the top of the pad, next to the cable input. This keeps them out of the way while you're pulling off fighting game moves, and it gives the controller more space in the front to lay out the buttons in the standard Capcom/arcade layout: Six LARGE buttons, in two rows of three each. There are also shoulder buttons, but these don't come into play in most fighting games unless you're setting up macros or other controls. For NeoGeo games, this layout requires you to do a two-by-two input map (NeoGeo had two punch buttons and two kick buttons for fighters), leaving you with two extra buttons at the end of each row (again, good for macros or other hotkey combos). This simple design also makes this controller a great stand-in for most classic console controllers such as the NES, SNES, Genesis, TG-16, and classic arcade machines. You wouldn't want to use it for newer console games, like N64, PS2, or GameCube because those all need analog sticks (and for that, I highly recommend an Xbox One-S controller) but this controller shines on older games designed with digital controls in mind. The package is pretty basic. The manual essentially just says "plug into USB and play" in seven different languages, so don't expect much from that, but there's really not much more to it than that anyway. Any newer version of Windows will plug-n-play, and Xbox 360 will work right out of the box, too, of course. The USB cable has a break-away feature, so that if you yank it you'll pull the cable apart instead of pulling your Xbox/PC onto the floor. That's always welcome, and it's one of the features I've come to appreciate from PDP. Build quality is very good for a controller in this price range. I've no complaints. It doesn't squeak or creak. It feels sturdy and solid, and it doesn't feel too light or cheap. I wouldn't recommend throwing it or stomping on it, but if you're a sane gamer who takes care of their things, it should last plenty of gaming sessions. I honestly can't find anything to complain about with this controller. For the price you likely won't do better for a fighting/classic gamepad with microswitches. There are other options out there, of course, but they all come in much more expensive and I somehow doubt they're worth the massive markup when compared to the PDP Versus Controller. Five stars, no doubt. A must-have for any fighting game fan and a great choice for fans of emulators and classic games.
Review: Innovative and solid - This is a great little controller with a cool design. It's very comfortable and good for fighting games. I like that the R and L bumper buttons are on the top of the pad next to the ABYX buttons, which is awesome for fighting games. Also, the D-Pad is actually a joystick/D-Pad hybrid. Once you get used to it, it makes for really fun gameplay. The guts are high quality. I eventually catabolized this controller to built an arcade stick. Everything works great! I recommend this to any gamer.

### ⭐⭐⭐ Tacky, but pad-hacky.
*by M***N on September 24, 2020*

Do you like sticky rubberized coating? If so, you're in luck! The manufacturer of this product has applied a coating to the back part of the controller shell which, at least on the two I've received, has deteriorated into a gross, tacky mess. For me, this is only a minor inconvenience, because I'm only interested in the controller PCB inside for pad-hacking because all of the inputs are purely digital, including RT and LT which are often analog controls on most game pads (and don't share the same ground as the digital buttons). If you plan on using these for fighting games, unmodified, also take note of the button layout, which deviates from the common layout used by most arcade sticks. On this controller, the strong punch (3P) and strong kick (3K) buttons are LB and RB, respectively, whereas most arcade sticks use RB for 3P and RT for 3K. You might find yourself having to remap buttons in many fighting games with this pad. Very few people care about 360 controllers these days, and it's tough to find quality aftermarket controllers. The main value in the pads by PDP are their circuit boards inside. This product is otherwise a swing and a miss considering their unfortunate button layout and terrible rubber coating. A few small changes would have made this a great product.
