I didn't want stinky, prickly vinyl; the odor of cheap plastic ranges from awful to intolerable. My leather saddle has no offensive odor. The tray stays off; it is indeed uncomfortable in place. But I like it as a catch tray for the lap on occasion. And if I really needed to camp in the recliner with a cold, it would probably park chicken soup pretty well; I wouldn't chance it. It has three remote pockets and a magazine pocket on *both* sides, which I couldn't tell from the picture or reviews. If not counter-balanced, it will find its way to the floor. My large digital tablet is a perfect weight, or a couple of magazines and/or my shoulder wrap work pretty well also. I find it very well worth the money, and I enjoy it every evening. I love having a nice place for two remotes and some extras.
