I used this to store by gauge/compass close to my BC. However, the rope is still too long so I ended up draping it over to the other side across my waist. I wanted it as close as possible to avoid drag on our first cavern diving experience in the cenotes last month. I also tied a knot in the rope to shorten the length. Other that that, I liked the ease of use, and that it held my gauge/compass in place, but it was not in the way. I would buy again.

I love this retractor. It comes with 2 different connectors, so it is versatile. I am using it to hold my backup console (I use vyper air as primary). This retainer held my console tight to BCD, but was easy to retrieve when I wanted to see compass heading. I will be ordering more for my kids. Update: I have ordered several more for scuba diving. All my kids lights and consoles have them attached (as well as mine). They have been used frequently. Most important is that the retraction is still holding even on the heavy primary lights! This retractor is OUTSTANDING. There is no sign of rust either (of course they are rinsed them after every dive).

A diver's must have. Throw away your long clips and bungees (add danger here) and go with these for your diving strobes, etc. My first one lasted 300 dives. I rinse it more now after a dive.

I didn't realize there were different "flavors" of stretch and force (inches and oz supported). This one has a short cable and a pretty hefty spring. When I checked it out, the cable slipped out of my fingers, snapped back, and whacked my other hand before coiling back into the housing. It surprised me and left a pretty good bruise on my finger. If you need to keep something heavy on a short leash or are using it underwater (which is it's forte, I read later), this is the one. I wanted something to tether a remote control for my disabled spouse and this would have been too much even for me. I returned it and picked up the same brand but with a longer cable and less spring tension. Again, if you need the power and control, I'd recommend this model, but make sure that is what you want.
