I personally would have not had it made out of plastic but rather some lightweight metal. I am using an 800 page book. To set up, pull the knob out, adjust the back stand to where you want it and push in. This will then lock the stand in place. The grippers on the bottom really do prevent this from moving or sliding. I've used this on my tile counters and wooden desk and table. No slipping or sliding even if you touch whatever you have on this stand. I've used this with my cookbook, tablets and even my textbooks. The sides to slide to help adjust. What I love about this stand is it hold the pages in places. When it comes to studying, I'm able to type my notes from the book to my laptop without having to hold or worry about my book falling off my desk.
