You can do just pegs and use it like a lite brite or do perler beads and make real items. It was so easy to figure out, great app. You can use it without app too. She’s delighted with it. You would definitely want to buy a peg/bead kit or big tub of perler beads. They don’t give you enough in here to really have fun. We bought the sorting kit with it that has a mix of beads, pegs and sequins. These are thinner and taller• the overall concept is great except when you try to use it with the light on.
