After I was unable to find a cause of the issues, I contacted the seller through desertcart. After one unsuccessful communication, I did end up messaging with a friendly, qualified representative who was willing to help resolve the issue and offered a replacement and I agreed to correct my service review. I responded and sent a short video of the malfunctioning unit. At this point all communication stopped, I wasn’t even able to change my service review with desertcart. We do custom outdoor furniture. Some with fresh cut wood. Some with reclaimed wood. And some with pallet wood. I use it for all of them. With new work, you never know when there will be a rogue staple or ten. This will find then in a hurry. With reclaimed wood, it finds nails/screws that have broken off and are not in plain view. This alone will save you money in blades for your band-saws, miter saws, tables saws, etc. Same goes with pallet wood. It works very well for this and has save me a lot. Since I am not prodding around in the dirt looking for that pocket drop of 1800’s coins out in the forest or combing the beaches for pirate treasure of Rolex's lost by the wealthy in Florida, I can’t speak for the ruggedness of this pin pointer.
