Great for people that know how to read and follow directions
User error, thatโs right I believe that the people that are giving it low ratings do not understand how this thing works. This works over a long period of time by reducing the number of mosquitoes. Youโre also reducing the number theyโre going to be able to reproduce. I have used this in two different properties. One backyard where I have over 40 trees the trap would be four with dried mosquitoes and you can tell the difference after about a month and a half. Itโs all about disrupting the cycle and reduce them their numbers a little at a time. On my second property is a lake house again with plenty of bugs but this time around I added a night and day outlet sensor as this is not effective during the daylight and youโre just eating up your life bulbs, lifespan, and using an electric electricity Make sure you do not have any other competing light sources It is satisfying to see how many bugs you catch with it. Itโs all about reading the instructions and doing things, right I would actually give it four stars for not having a built-in night and day sensor, but Iโm giving it five to contract for all the damn reviews

A review, one year in...
I donโt often write reviews, but with so many conflicting ones for this product, I thought Iโd weigh in. I live in GA, where mosquito season runs from March to November, with a creek that runs thru my backyard that creates a perfect nesting ground for the little Suckers. My yard was at times intolerable, for me, my guests and my pups. I went out on a limb, in spite of conflicting reviews and tried Dynatrap- and I donโt regret it! I even purchased a second unit for my parents a month later, I was so impressed. A few thoughts: -Read the instructions!! Do not install the unit where you are most, it attracts the bugs so doing so attracts them to you. Mine is on a post, approximately 12ft out from my patio, and this seems to work well. -I leave it plugged in and turned on all the time. I unplugged it and brought it in over winter, right before a snow/ice storm and brought it back out as soon as temps began consistently staying about freezing. -I empty it every few days; it does attract mostly moths and mosquitoes. I was concerned about it killing beneficial bugs and pollinators, as I do garden, but that has not been an issue in the year Iโve used it so far. -Itโs not perfect, there are still a few mosquitoes here and there, but not many. Iโve been sitting on my patio for nearly 2 hours, as I type and have yet to get a bite. I call that a win!

Two Tries for Functional Unit
Unit arrived by USPS in undamaged carton and appeared pristine, but would not switch on. I bypassed Amazon to call the manual's manufacturer contact, who immediately sent a replacement by UPS. The second unit runs, so I'll be able to assess effectiveness soon. The new carton had a pack of mounting screws, a cleaning brush, and a laminated insert of "important information" that the first lacked, so I think the first unit had been a return. Such should get basic quality checks for function and accessories before re-issue. They did not want it back this time. So great customer service, even if initial fulfillment in combination Amazon failed. High hopes on effectiveness!

More effective at trapping your dollar bills then your mosquitoes!
I purchased this product primarily for my mosquito and wasp problem neither of which it had any effect on. I saw no change whatsoever in mosquito activity both in our patio area and in the yard. I actually got stung by a wasp just 15 feet away from it. I know it can't catch everything but it didn't catch a single fly or wasp. If you're after moths then you will love it as that is primarily what I saw when I removed the basket to clean it. Also, their proprietary light bulb burned out only after 8 weeks of use and costs $15 to replace. To me that smacks of โrevenue streamโ and to say this thing will cover 1/2 acre half area is a vast overstatement. In fact I would call that downright false advertising. I contacted Dynatrap directly with my grievances and all they did was reply with some tips that are all included in the manual that came with it and didn't even mention the premature lightbulb failure. They said they will only refund money within a 30 day period. Concerning the lack of effectiveness with regards to mosquitoes they stated โOnce you put the Dynatrap out, it will take about 3 weeks before it has any impact on the mosquito population, since thatโs about how long it takes for mosquito eggs to hatch, and 6 weeks to break the life cycle. Interesting how you have to do keep this thing past when the refund window has closed to know if it has a chance of working! To me that says loud and clear, SCAM!!!

Hoped this would work
I don't even have a 1/4 acre lot but got the 1/2 acre because the mosquitoes are so bad in Houston, TX. After the first 24 hours, the results were amazing. Evidently mosquitoes were nesting in several places on my covered patio and we couldn't even step out the door without being attacked. I have cleaned out the trap 3 times since purchase and the amount of bugs has decreased quite a bit. Today I was outside for no more than 5 minutes and did walk thru the grass and was eaten alive. Went out again a few hours later to water 3 potted plants on my front porch and I am totally covered with mosquito bites. I've even been using a mosquito yard spray but nothing seems to be helping now. It got up to almost 100 degrees here today and now it's 90 degrees with 53% humidity and no breeze at all. Not so sure I want to keep this Dynatrap as the box said it had a 42 day trial. The previous wording was written 15 days ago. Now the light bulb has gone out and I see that there was only a 30 day return on this product if purchased at Amazon but the box said a 42 or 45 day trial. I'll see if the manufacturer will help!

Works best with affordable upgrades
My target is mosquitoes which are not attracted to the light so some adaptations help to maximize mosquito capture. On this unit, a fan pulls in the bug and the bug is trapped alive in the reservoir. I purchased a few things to use in addition to this unit: sticky traps, octenol lure, dry ice, and a Styrofoam cooler. I put the sticky trap in the bottom of the reservoir and one octenol lure. I poked a couple small holes in the top of the cooler and put the dry ice in to emit CO2. These lures mimic breath. I caught hundreds of mosquitoes and gnats, and a few different types of moths in 3 days. I could not be more excited about my setup. The first photo is not great because the mosquitoes are all smashed to the trap, but I circled the areas with the highest concentration of mosquitoes on the trap. The second photo is less concentrated and you can see more clearly it's mostly biting gnats and various species of mosquito.

4 years and still working good.
I bought 2 of these traps 4 yrs ago and they still working great. You'll need to replace the bulbs when they burn out, ( generic bulbs are cheaper and seem to work fine ) other than that. They catch a lot of mosquitos. Take a bucket of hot water when cleaning the basket. Remove basket quickly and submerge upside down in the hot water. This will kill any mosquitos still alive in the trap and prevent them from escaping. After about 5 minutes, dump out the basket and rinse clean. Take a small brush, like a paint brush and clean the grid below the fan. Also, check the fan is not locked up. A couple times I found a larger bug had gotten wedged on the side of the fan and stopped it from spinning. Reattach the basket and it's ready to go again. Good product. Highly recommend.

The un-ease of replacing bulbs...
We have had the trap for 1-month. It attracted lots of moths, beetles, a few wasps, and I do feel that our little black SW Florida mosquitoes diminished during its use. Our bulb blew in 800-hrs. I ordered 3 new bulbs. To replace the bulb, 4 tiny screws, in a very narrow and deep channel, need to be removed. We had to remove the 2 concrete screws (that I pd a handyman to insert into our carport wall) that held the trap high on the wall, in order to attempt to remove 4 tiny screws. Our smallest Phillips head screwdriver (#0) wasn't small enough to fit into the tiny tiny screws. My husband took the trap with him to an Ace Hardware store that didn't have a small drill bit to sell, but they did use an in-house optician-type tiny electric screwdriver with a long shank to remove the screws for us (tiny screws are housed in a very narrow area..my fingers fit, but my husband could not get to the screws...a long tiny screwdriver needs to be used.) We were then able to remove and clean the fan, insert a new bulb, reconnected the fan, plugged unit back into socket. New light bulb didn't work. I called DynaTrap for a 2nd time to ask if I should try yet another bulb. The company sent me a new bulb, and also offered to have the trap sent back to them as it may be defective. For 1-week, the disassembled trap had been sitting in my family room because I now have the challenge of finding an electric long-shafted, tiny Phillips-head magnetic tip screwdriver so that the screws can be replaced. Magnetic tip because there isn't room for a slim screwdriver and 2-fingers holding the tiny screw. Changing the bulb has entailed removing concrete screws, 2-trips to the hardware store, 2 calls to DynaTrap, and now the challenge of finding that special screwdriver. Too much work! Too much drama! I could have painted a room in the house in the hours that have been devoted to removing and replacing a bulb. Sadly, I am returning the product. A wing-nut on the top portion, easily removed and allowing access to the bulb without having to take the unit down from the wall, remove the fan, enlist others' assistance to remove screws, inserting a new bulb, and then stressing as to how the tiny screws will be reinserted would be a great design improvement. Way too much work. ๐

This doesn't work outside USA, it is 120V
When buying the product it doesn't mention that it is 120V and they are selling it in the UAE, which is 220v standard.. This is completely misleading and dangerous..
