Follow these steps and you'll probably have success.1) connect any USB device you want to use, IE keyboard/mouse/etc2) connect the HDMI cable to the adapter but not to the tv/monitor. Alternatively you can connect to the monitor and not to the adapter. Either way don't connect it to the screen you want to use just yet.3) connect YOUR charging cable directly from your wall-charger. The cable that was sent with the adapter to provide power must not be high enough quality to power everything and USB does not have enough 'umph' to do it either.4) plug the adapter into your phone, verify that the phone has recognized your USB device(keyboard/mouse/etc). If not, start over from step 1. If you continue to have issues, your adapter may be defective.5) now you can connect your HDMI cable to your screen. Thanks!** A: Does not work on my Moto X, won't even charg through it. Waste of $10. **Q: can this be used with a Note 3?** A: It sure can. this item is MHL 2.0 and the Note 3 is MHL 2.0. After about an hour of unplugging and replugging in different ways was I able to get it to work as advertised. Forget about reading the manual, mine only came with half of one, and it wasn't very helpful at all.It looks and feels cheap, but it's actually fairly well made. The solder joints on the inside were mucked up, but the components they used were of fair quality and after hitting the joins with a hot iron it looked great.While the adapter was attached to my Note 2, it felt solid and secure. However, I need to remove my protection case just to use this thing. No matter as I'm probably going to use this without the shell around the adapter eventually anyway.I'll share how I was able to get full HDMI out, charging, and USB OTG capabilities. Just follow these steps. 1) connect any USB device you want to use, IE keyboard/mouse/etc 2) connect the HDMI cable to the adapter but not to the tv/monitor. It is very lite and I use it as shown laying flat, or supported by case in portrait orientation. I have used it with but my note 2 and note 3, and it works great. Mine had a couple issues, but support has been great working with me to see if it needed to be replaced. I was able to test hdmi, usb, and sd reader. On my unit I was not able to charge phone through kit, I tried it with hdmi plugged in and with hdmi unplugged. The other issue was the hdmi signal would drop whenever a notification came in on the phone, then return within a few seconds.Once again support has been great, looking forward to testing out replacement. I was using the samsung smart dock, but I think the phone is mush more stable laying down. I bought these for use in hotels so I can watch movies,(off microsd, thumb drive or streaming over the internet). I was able to stream from Amazon prime, crackle, Plex, etc with no issues.I will come back and update this review after testing replacement kit. ### ⭐⭐⭐ 3.0 out of 5 stars A good start *by N***N on Reviewed in the United States on February 15, 2014* This item is actually pretty good, but there are a few reasons why I am giving it 3 stars.1) The connection is inconsistent. The device needs to be at a specific angle inside the phone's micro-USB connection to work, and sometimes cuts off connection, which would be really bad during a data transfer.2) I have not been able to successfully charge the phone while this is working, no matter what cable I use.3) This device is not case friendly.4) I also have not been able to get a keyboard or mouse to work with the USB port.Please don't let my rating deter you from purchasing this product. I love this thing, but it has a lot of flaws that I hope Patuoxun will adress if they make a new model.
