I purchased stands previously that were not connected and wasn't real happy with how they worked out on carpet. These took care of the moving around issue and even more sturdy when using the weight pegs, I use a couple of 35lb plates. The only issue I have is the brackets on the top have no cushion so if you don't add some rubber or something, your bar will get scratched up pretty good.
