Excellent EDC and Bedside Buddy
So far I'm tickled to death with the newest addition to my EDC items. It features rugged construction, excellent design and it's versatile enough for a wide variety of uses. it's tiny and lightweight but powerful enough to be truly useful and you can easily carry it clipped to a pocket and never know it's there. At the end of the day, it comes out of my pocket and onto my nightstand. Our power went out again last night and this little light came in handy for letting the dog out and heading into the kitchen for water. The versatility doesn't stop there. The same clip that holds the light firmly in your pocket will also attach securely to the bill your ball cap, meaning you'll have two hands for that job you're trying to finish in the dark without resorting to holding a flashlight between your teeth. Another outstanding and very well thought out feature is the on/off switch. It's a push button on the butt of the barrel. It's very easy to depress it partially with your thumb and activate the light for a quick burst but it takes more effort to depress it fully and then release for a constant beam. It's an excellent design that makes the light quick to deploy but hard to accidentally engage--no worries if you need to pack the light away for travel. I also like the fact that it came with the one AAA battery it needs to power up its surprisingly strong beam. No instructions were included but everything you could wish to know is on the company's website. To me, this is a no-nonsense nice-looking functional unit that's been stripped down for ease of carry but still has the features you need to get the job done. There's no adjustable beam but everything you need is there and nothing you don't. I am super impressed with what I got for my money.

Compact, Bright, and Always Reliable
I've used a lot of small flashlights over the years, but the Streamlight MicroStream really impressed me. Despite its compact size, it puts out a surprisingly bright 45 lumens, which is more than enough for most tasks. Whether I’m out on a night hike, working under the hood, or just looking for something in the garage, this little light does the trick. The clip is sturdy and versatile—I’ve attached it to my pocket, hat brim, and even my tool bag. The push-button tail switch is responsive, and I appreciate the momentary or constant-on feature. The aluminum housing makes it tough enough to handle drops and rough use without any issues. Battery life is decent for its size, and I like that it runs on a single AAA battery. Simple, effective, and rugged—exactly what I want in a pocket flashlight. Highly recommend it for anyone looking for a reliable everyday carry light.

Outstanding task light--small, bright, compact, ultra-light!
This is a truly outstanding light, and at $16.00, it competes with other lights in the $30 - 60 range in terms of build quality, form factor, and beam quality. I'm very impressed. First, this is the UPDATED version of the original MicroStream, so if you've read older, pre-2011 reviews (many are still circulating online), you may be surprised to learn that this version has resolved several known issues with the older model. The beam is brighter (28 lumens instead of 20), battery run time is longer (2.5 hours instead of 1.75 hours), the tail switch is much stiffer (nearly impossible to turn on by accident in your pocket), and, though I have no way to confirm it, the anodized coating seems to be more scratch resistant. Second, this light is very small. It is barely larger in diameter than an AAA battery, and the length is about the same as the width of my medium-sized hand (i.e., if you clutch it in your fist, you should be able to palm the entire light). The two-way pocket clip is reasonably stiff and very functional. It can be clipped onto your pocket for a more secure ride or onto the brim of a hat (or backpack strap, etc.) to hold the light for hands-free illumination. I've also clipped it onto the edge of a stroller as a very effective headlight to illuminate the pathway when pushing a stroller at night. The weight is so light you will absolutely forget that you're carrying it. It's only negligibly heavier than the weight of the AAA battery itself. Basically, if you have room for a tube of chapstick in your pocket, you have room for this light. Third, the beam is very clean. It creates a nice, round, evenly illuminated circle of light with no hot spots or shadows anywhere in the center of the beam. The beam has a very effective reach (throw range) of about 15 feet. When you shine it at your feet, it casts a brightly lit circle about 18" in diameter. There is some spill at the edges of the beam, but not enough to illuminate the surrounding area, so it's closer to a spotlight than a floodlight (as any light of this size should be). It's ideal for illuminating a pathway at night, reading in the dark (though perhaps too bright for extended reading), locating a keyhole in a door, or momentarily blinding a potential attacker to gain an edge in a self defense situation. Fourth, the light is certainly weatherproof and, theoretically, waterproof. I haven't tested the latter claim, but there is an O-ring seal on the barrel threads where the light screws together so I suspect it would certainly survive a drop into a puddle or other casual contact with water. I wouldn't deliberately take it diving, of course, but it's not a dive light so it hardly matters. In short, I'm very impressed with this excellent, lightweight, perfect-for-casual-lighting-needs light. I'll probably buy several more and stow them in various places (kitchen cupboard, boat hatch, glovebox, office drawer, etc.) because they're so affordable and useful, yet take up almost no room.

Unreal!! More Impressive Than The Bulkier/Heavier/More Expensive Lights!
This thing has it all on Mag Lights and the like. It's so easy to use, provides great light, is lightweight, and can go with you anywhere. This is essentially the same review I left for Streamlight 66118 Stylus Pro Black LED Pen Flashlight with Holster . They're the same pen, but this one is a little less than 1/2 the length of the other. I prefer the longer length pen light, as I have big hands. This one is great too though. A little harder to hold traditionally, but easier to hold in your mouth or place in a pocket for quick use. I've gotten used to carrying a small LED flashlight around with me. It's amazing how often a flashlight comes in handy (looking for something on the floor of a movie theater, on the floor of your car, checking the oil under the hood of your car, etc...). It's just a great tool to have. LED light is so bright and clear, it really helps you see more than traditional lights. It's such a step up from the old yellow flashlights of our past. I bought two small'ish high quality Leatherman flashlights at Costco for $25-$30 each. I also bought two not-so-high quality flashlights at Sam's Club for $28 (package of two). I'd either keep one in my car or take it with me when I go wherever I went. Therein lies the problem. Carrying a flashlight, especially a well-made one (i.e. heavier), is a pain. It's very difficult if you're just relying on your pockets & hands. It's easier if you carry a backpack or a man bag, but that's not always practical. Anyway, a flashlight was always just another thing I had to carry (iPod, Flip video, cell phone, wallet, keys) wherever I went. Living in the Midwest, we have very cold winters and very hot/humid summers. I'm not a fan of leaving electronics in freezing or sweltering vehicles, so I always have to truck everything around with me. Well, thanks to this pen light, I have one fewer thing to carry. Sure, it still has to go with me, but I hardly know it's there! Obviously it's the circumference of a pen, but it's 1/2 as long. It's very small. It's also very lightweight. This really helps if you have to hold the light in your mouth (checking the oil dipstick on your car, for example). The light is extremely bright, much more than I'd expect from a product this size. Just stick it in your pocket and go. It feels like it's very high quality, and will hold up with more than a few drops (not that I'd recommend dropping it, but it happens). Be careful with the holster. It comes very tight and will grip/hold onto anything. If you have it attached to a pocket or shirt collar (wherever), make sure that you slide it up/down instead of pulling out. Once the holster/clip gets bent out, it's hard to get it super tight again.

Just buy it...
After years of ownership I can report this thing is great. If you are wanting a small flashlight that has a press to activate, press further to keep on switch with ONE setting which is a flood not a spot and is NOT adjustable that is durable and gives you a perfect amount of low light in a low light setting to be very bright and not blind you if you know what I mean. Also, giving you the option deep pocket carry or to attach it to your hat brim which is genius not brand specific but still it's got it if you want it and if not you can pull it off. That takes a regular run of the mill AAA battery and not some proprietary unobtanium battery then this is it. I personally keep it in my tool box to use on automotive chores in my shop. You are not going to be able to see 100 yards at night with it obviously, and it's not going to give you 24 hours of run time but for keeping in your pocket to see at night with it's perfect!

Great, very compact.
Super handy size for putting in a field/forestry vest pocket, pants pocket, etc. 4 stars because it’s not really as bright as I’d hoped, and I think it could be brighter, but given the size and intended use (inspecting the interior of culverts) that really shouldn’t be a big issue.

5 because I can't give 10 but some changes to design
I've been using the Micro stream for about 3 years now and frankly have never found a better value/high quality flashlight. I choice this one because of the tail push button switch, I don't like using twistys, for me they are more awkward and frankly difficult to operate in a pinch. I read a lot of reviews and new this wasn't the brightest or the most "in" flashlight in this size but nothing else this size seemed to have the tail button or the quality/looks of the microstream. I ended up getting so much more then I bargained for that I cannot bare to use anything else from fenix to quark, and I've tried. Now I carry one everywhere I go and even bought a spare as a redundancy in my camping pack. It has throws a heck of a long way, lasts forever on one battery and feels good in the hand (solid, as well as ergonomic yet light at the same time.) I've owned a lot of these, a few I've lost because of my own fault and one broke for reasons unknown but it was my first, so it was 3 years old and frankly I put them to hard use. I would not that they design, on this most recent order to replace the one that broke because I can't stand not to have one always at my hip anymore, it's addictive) has changed. I don't know why they have made the push button cap removable, you can screw the end off and replace the rubber button cover now, and it's odd but not a deficit. It is now also about 8 lumens brighter and comparing an old one to this new version its throw is a little longer and it has a wider diameter of light sooner. The only minor complaint I have is that they change the pocket clip. I loved the pocket clip on the old one, simple, easy to use(unbreakable which I thick is a dangerous thing to saw but so far they have all lived up to the promise.) and easy to ease out your pocket. Now they have doubled it back over so that the end of the clip curves back up to the tail. It's not a bad clip it's just annoying because the thing is now more difficult to get out my pocket. The design has the effect of making the end of the clip, what I use to hook my finger on to slide it out, smooth. Also it create a kind of second pocket clip because the meta reaches back up tot eh top and the other day it got caught on my seat belt and I ended up leaving the thing in the car. Despite this new and strange redesign on the pocket clip I wouldn't use another pocket flash light simple because there is nothing more I could want, not to say I won't try some others out from time to time. I couldn't recommend it more to anyone who uses one. For those who don't use a pocket flashlight be warned, once you have one, you can no longer live without it.

One and Not Done
Great little light. Now I have many - not too many. My first has developed a beautiful patina. Buyer beware: this will not be your only Streamlight product if you decide to buy as your first. I now have different sizes and some with rechargeable batteries. The ones that take AAA batteries, like this, always seems more versatile and durable from my bias. I have not seen any corrosion or degradation in any of mine. Theses lights are potent little suckers that can simply clip on to whatever and weigh nothing. Start your collection sooner rather than later
