Now Logitech has been a main contender in the gaming market for a while and in general for longer than that, so I was not surprised to see a lot of god feedback coming from customers. I too was a Logitech user, a steering wheel that I absolutely love because of its craftsmanship and overall quality. So I began to narrow my field down to around $100 and see what I could get in the price range. I started comparing various Logitech headsets against each other and other brands. 9 out of 10 times, the Logitech headset came out on top. So Logitech it was...but which one, the g430, the g35, or the wireless g930? So I simply compared them against each other and almost every review I read had the g930 coming out on top unless wireless was not your style then the g35 was the victor. Being a fan of a non-cluttered desk and being very anal retentive about my cable management I dug into the reviews both text and YouTube, for the g930. Was the mic quality good? Did they feel comfortable on my head? How about the batteries, did they last? Everything I found was positive so I ordered them...then canceled my order, reviewed another few vids and reordered them...yes, I had second thoughts not 5 minutes after I ordered them the first time. Thanks to my Prime membership and a stroke of good luck, they arrived the next day, and I didn't pay for overnight shipping!!!! I'm impatient and love to test my new toys as soon as I get them, so I wasted no time setting them up for use. The packaging itself was great, they call it frustration free packaging. None of that heat pressed plastic garbage, cut a couple pieces of tape and slid everything right out. Plugged the sweet USB/charging hub into my computer and powered them on. The drivers self-installed and following the advise of several reviews, I downloaded the Gaming Software that allows you to make changes to the profiles. Now the sound test, I slapped on Spotify and cranked out the tunes. They sounded great! So onto a game to test the surround. So I wasn't very pleased with the surround, everyone talking sounded like they were talking into a tin can, and overall the sound quality wasn't that great, but flip it back to stereo and everything sounded amazing. So how long would this battery last? Well out of the box I got about 2 hours out of it before I had to charge them...but I was in the middle of a gaming session with my friends. No worries, the play and charge feature worked flawlessly. With the headset plugged in, it felt like a typical wired headset thanks to the angled charging cord that pushed the bulk of the cable out away from my head. In about 3 hours, while still using them heavily, I was fully charged and ready to ditch the cable. So how long did the battery last? Well, playing games, talking to my friends in a chat service and streaming music all at once, I got about 5-6 hours out of it. So it was a little short of the 10 hours Logitech claims but I also had a lot of sounds and there time frame even says "Up To 10 Hours" depending on what you're doing. So the mic? Well I asked my friends how I sounded and they said fine, so I recorded myself a little message and played it back, sounded just fine. One thing I loved about my TB headsets was the voice monitoring, which kept me from getting noiseless syndrome, when your yell into a mic because you can't hear how loud you are talking. So how would this work for the g930? Easy, remember the gaming software I mentioned earlier? You simply turn up the side tone volume on the sound menu to your desired level and you can hear yourself so you don't scream. The 7.1 surround sound looked very cool and considering all the other products that I have owned from Logitech (mainly mice and one keyboard) I was hopeful. Got the headphones and was incredibly excited to have some nice quality headphones only to realize I got cheaply made horse crap that lasted just under two months. Pros: .The headphones are incredibly comfortable, I could game for quite a few hours before finding myself having to take them off. .They block out sound very well .The NORMAL sound from them is pretty incredible, not the 7.1 feature. It'll be covered in the cons area. .Cool feature with the boom-mic where it auto-mutes when it is raised up. Cons: (HOLY HELL HERE WE GO) .The Logitech Gaming Software is an abysmal excuse for a "driver program". It is literally worthless, with the exception that you can only turn on 7.1 surround sound when the software is installed and running. Which is still pointless. I had some issues with my computer at one point during these 2 months where some memory got corrupted or something. I had to update a few drivers for my motherboard etc restart the computer a few times, when suddenly I realized that my headset was not working anymore. No sound at all. The mic was being picked up because my friends over skype could still hear me. So something weird was going on. I spent three days not being able to play with my friends because I was stuck with no sound trying to figure out what to do to fix the issue. I have no idea what messed the headset up but the only fix that I could find was to completely uninstall the Logitech Gaming Software. (which isn't a big deal considering the software is 100% worthless to begin with.) So basically the software that is supposed to make the headset work and have more functionality is what broke them for a couple of days. Good job Logitech. .For the first few weeks the headset was constantly cutting itself off, forums stated that it is because they might almost be dead etc. where the aforementioned gaming software told me they had 10 hours of life left. I felt reason to believe that the headset was not almost dead considering I had them charging most of the day while I was out working. One solution I found was to leave them plugged in charging while I used them, effectively making them what I will call them from now on, the "Expensive Wireless Wired Headset by Logitech". I finally found a permanent solution, go into the driver files and find the config for the G930s and change a setting called something like "battery_power_off_interval 900" and change it to "battery_power_off_interval 0". In all honesty the pure stupidity of this line of config even existing makes me feel like I have lost brain cells so I will not comment on it. Hopefully you the reader will understand why that is so stupid. .The 7.1 surround sound is a joke. I don't know all the gizmos and gadgets and tech behind how the surround sound is supposed to work. All I know is that it only sounds like you are in an empty wooden room with sounds echoing off the walls. This in my opinion is not "surround sound" but hell what do I know. If you want to experience the "7.1 Surround Sound" feature of this headset just buy like two or three speakers and an empty wooden room and play music/ sounds from them from your phone. BOOM $80 worth of 7.1 surround sound. .The mic boom broke near the end of the second month. From what? I don't know. It seems that a screw or something broke and it doesn't hold itself in the up position anymore, which is sad because that for me was one of the coolest features. I wasnt that distraught over it though I was planning on just seeing if I could fix it myself and tighten said loose screw. That is, until the mic stop working completely. About 2 days after the mic boom broke, the mic stopped working. So I'm guessing there was something more wrong than just a simple loosened screw. The only thing I can even conceive that might have broken it is occasionally when going to the bathroom I would lightly toss the headset with the mic boom in the up position onto my bed from less than 1 foot away. The max airtime they might have had would have been 0.5 seconds. If this light toss onto a pillow-top mattress broke the headset then they definitely were not built to be sold as an $80 headset. This sorry excuse for Chinese engineering leads me to believe that all of Logitech's microphones are made from delicate baby tears and toenails. Simply put without the sarcasm. If the headset broke from this light tossing they were built with absolutely awful quality materials. Summary: This headset is not worth $80, the "feature adding Logitech Gaming Software" is useless and a pile of garbage, the software was also programmed with the most ignorant config setting that I have ever heard of, the quality of the material it is built out of is trash, the auto-muting mic boom is really cool though. Basically do not buy these headphones unless they are lowered to a price more worthy of their build quality, something like $15 sounds fair. I have had this headset for a little over 3 years now. Most days I end up using the headset with a 10 foot USB cable plugged in because I always forget to plug it in at night. After over 3 years of use and having it frequently plugged in while in use I have not had a single problem with it. **Q: Some headset will press my ears against the glasses, this makes my ears hurt after wearing for awhile. Is it comfortable to wear it with glasses?** A: I have thick frame hipster glasses. Doesn't hurt bother me comfort wise while playing.However I will say the fake leather / pleather they use on the ear cushions will squeak any time you move your head at all. Even tiny movements will make it squeak. Imagine rubbing a balloon against a leather couch but basically in your ear.It's not so loud/noticeable that you'll go crazy or can't use them, especially since you can just try to remain still. I imagine some people could put up with it and just ignore it, others might be very put off by the noise.After googling a bit, I found someone recommending some 3rd party replacement ear cushions made of fabric. About 2 days after the mic boom broke, the mic stopped working. So I'm guessing there was something more wrong than just a simple loosened screw. The only thing I can even conceive that might have broken it is occasionally when going to the bathroom I would lightly toss the headset with the mic boom in the up position onto my bed from less than 1 foot away. The max airtime they might have had would have been 0.5 seconds. If this light toss onto a pillow-top mattress broke the headset then they definitely were not built to be sold as an $80 headset. This sorry excuse for Chinese engineering leads me to believe that all of Logitech's microphones are made from delicate baby tears and toenails. Simply put without the sarcasm. If the headset broke from this light tossing they were built with absolutely awful quality materials. Summary: This headset is not worth $80, the "feature adding Logitech Gaming Software" is useless and a pile of garbage, the software was also programmed with the most ignorant config setting that I have ever heard of, the quality of the material it is built out of is trash, the auto-muting mic boom is really cool though. Basically do not buy these headphones unless they are lowered to a price more worthy of their build quality, something like $15 sounds fair. Sorry Logitech you dropped a ball bigger than the craps I get from my local Mexican restaurant. I will be taking my business elsewhere. Let's start with the audio quality (that you will hear). I personally can't say that I am an audiophile, but I have tried to delve into the world of audiophiles. I bought an AKG K7xx which is a $200 set of headphones. Linus from LinusTechTips claimed that the AKG K7xx sounds very, VERY similar to the Sennheiser HD600 (which costs $320 today, July 3, 2015 on Amazon). The reason I am mentioning this is because I can't really tell the difference between the AKG K7xx and the Logitech G930. Let me also add that I really dislike the surround sound and NEVER use it. Next let's move on to the mic quality. I really like it. I talk with a number of different people online and they all use various different microphones. Some of them use cheap desktop mics, some use Kingston HyperX Clouds, some use modmics, some use xbox 360 mics connected to xbox 360 controllers, and one other person uses the Logitech G930. I have to say, the friend with the Logitech G930 is my favorite listen to. There's no annoying static in the background, it sounds crisp and perfect for chatting. I wouldn't say its great for Youtube videos or Podcasting, but it would be satisfactory. If you already own a high quality microphone, the G930 make a good pair of wireless headphones. If you're a person who *needs* sidetone, you can even use the G930 mic for just the sidetone while you use a different mic for recording. Now it's time to talk about wireless. There are reviews on this item that complain about the wireless being bad and it disconnecting often. I feel like those people got the defective units. The reason I say that is because when I first bought the headset it worked fine, hardly any loss of signal. Then at one point it physically broke and I had to warranty it. When I got a replacement unit, I was getting SO MANY wireless disconnects. It was unreal. I would get like one every ten minutes. Again, through the warranty, I got another replacement and that unit worked perfectly fine. There is a wireless router in my home and it doesn't affect my headset's signal. I can even leave my room and walk around my home and still use this headset. I can go to almost every room in my house and maintain the signal. The exceptions are the basement (two floors down) and a few corner rooms. I can even keep the signal on my porch steps. Build quality is, in my opinion, the most disappointing part about this product. It's pretty flimsy plastic. It flexes as you put it on your head and you can hear it creak as you move it around. I've had *three separate G930's* where the plastic broke in such a way that rendered the headset unwearable. Once on the upside down "Y" that holds the earpiece and twice on the hinge that connects that upside "Y" to the top headband. I almost want to mod it myself and fortify it with metal because I love this headset but it's not sturdy enough. Let me also add some context: I am a heavy user of this headset. I wear it anywhere from 2-6 hours a day (very rough estimate) so maybe a light user won't have it break as easily. You may have noticed that I've had multiple headsets of this model. I have only bought one. That is because this unit comes with a 3 year manufacturer's warranty (or 2 if I read it wrong). I've RMA'd it four times in the past and I am currently waiting on Logitech support to get back to me so I can RMA it again. They've covered it when the plastic breaks and they've covered it when I got a lemon (defective unit). They even pay the shipping fee to send the item from you to them and then back. Those things alone are great in terms of customer support. However they do sometimes really confuse me. I say this because sometimes it takes forever for them to get back to you. Sometimes they respond to warrantly claims on their site within 2 business days. Sometimes they respond to you in a week. I've even had them respond to me in as much as 3 weeks. That does sound kind of inconvenient but that's not even the worst of it. On one of my RMA's they wouldn't even respond to my online account and I had to call them a few times. So with all that being said, it's good and bad, but they definitely have pulled through for me. Let me tell you, this headset is comfy! I can happily wear it for extended periods of time. Not having to deal with wires is a *Godsend.* Whenever I am forced to use a different headset there will be times when the headset wire get's caught under my chair wheel or on the armrest and it's really annoying. With wireless, I even walk around my house while chatting! If I wanted to go grab a drink, I could. If I wanted to watch a movie in bed at night without bothering others, I could! If I wanted to play a console in the living room, I could! With the appropriate setup I even feed console audio into the headset, which is amazing I might add. Battery life is good enough. Just plug it in when you aren't using it. If you forget to, just plug it in while you use it. The software is meh. I have a big gripe about it specifically. The gripe is that in the event the headset loses signal, the sidetone resets to 0. I absolutely HATE that. I hate the feeling when I sound muffled and sidetone makes it so I don't sound muffled. There isn't anything that can be done about this aside from opening the software and resetting the sidetone slider. There have been other users who also posted numerous times on the Logitech forums and in emails, but unfortunately it seems that Logitech just doesn't care about this problem. My preferred setup nowadays is to use the Logitech G930 as wireless headphones. I use a Blue Yeti mic for pretty much everything but I still have the G930 mic in place so I can have sidetone. I have a $200 AKG set of headphones as backup (which I plan to use when the G930 breaks). It's gonna suck when the warranty runs out. I will then have to make a decision.
