Behold the deathless appeal of the vampire, from the creatures of earliest myth and literature to the popular characters in recent movies and television shows. This colorful collection starts in biblical times with two paper dolls, Lilith and Cain, and spans the ages with 29 character costumes, which include Bela Lugosi in the 1931 classic Dracula; the heroine of Buffy the Vampire Slayer; Bill from True Blood; and Edward from Twilight . Contains mature content. Review: Yes, Master! - Tom Tierney is the master of the didactic paper doll; his books are ALWAYS filled with so much information, artistry, and delight! Beware!!!! You are in for some SERIOUS FUN! VAMPIRE PAPER DOLLS is brilliant, surprising, and chilling. Mr. Tierney's very succinct page and a half of detailed notes is fascinating. The artwork--dolls and changeable masks and costumes--is often incredibly beautiful--and startling and amusing, too. The numbered plates, all printed on sturdy cardstock, include pairs and groups of characters and victims--Biblical, historical, cross cultural and pop cultural: 1) Lilith and Cain--a story that will surprise and shock many and offend some 2) The shocking Blood Countess--Elizabeth Bathory (a literal blood bath)--and Vlad III--the Impaler 3) Sekhmet--Egyptian goddess and blood-loving hunter--and Lamia, a Lybian queen turned monster, whose story is heartbreaking 4) Kali, blood drinking Hindu goddess--and Camazotz a Mayan bat god 5) Japan's Vampire Cat of Nebeshima, and Chiang Shi--a Chinese vampire 6) Queen Akasha--Aliyah playing Anne Rice's "The Queen of the Damned" 7) Baobhan Sith--a seductive Scottish vampire or banshee; and Lord Ruthven from "The Vampyre" 8) Sir Francis Varney and Flora Bannerworth from "The Blood Feast" 9) "Carmilla', lesbian vampire from 1872; and the Skeleton Count and the Vampire Mistress 10)Max Shreck as Count Orlock from "Nosferatu" 11)Bela Lugosi as "Dracula"; and Gloria Holden as "Dracula's Daughter" 12)Maila Nurmi as "Vampira" from the TV show, and Christopher Lee as arguably the greatest Dracula of them all 13)William Marshall as "Blacula"; and Jonathan Frid as Barnabas Collins--this is a friend's favorite page 14)Gary Oldman as "Bram Stoker's Dracula"--and Tom Cruise as Lestat with Kirsten Dunst from "Interview with a Vampire" 15)Angel, Buffy, and Spike from TV's "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" 16)Edward Cullen and Bella Swan from the "Twilight Trilogy" and Sookie Stackhouse and Bill Compton from HBO's "True Blood" This is a dazzling parade of passion, heartbreak, lust, evil, stalking hunger, and camp delight that you will want to see and own and share. Buy two; one to play with, one to keep. Thanks, Mr. Tierney. You've done it again! Review: Wonderful book for any vampire fan! - I admit it--I'm a Spike fan and I bought this book because it includes a Spike doll. But when the book arrived I learned that it would have been worth owning even without Spike. It contains a variety of vampires, both from old stories and new, and from a variety of cultures. There are Buffy characters, of course, and Twilight (sigh), but also Blacula and Lestat and Gary Oldman and Nosferatu and Elizabeth Bathory and more. The art is outstanding and many of the dolls have small accessories. Spike and Angel come with both human and vampire faces. There's also a surprisingly extensive section of notes on the figures; I learned some new vampire lore. And, having said all that, I can add that Spike's gorgeous, too!

Vampire Paper Dolls
I wish there had been more of the classic Vampire films. Lugosi's Count Mora from "Mark of the Vampire," & Lon Chaney Sr's Man in the beaver hat from "London After Midnight,"should have been included as well as John Carradine's Dracula. Dracula's Daughter, the Countess Marya Zeleska, should have also been given her hooded outfit and her ring. Janos Skorzeny from "The Night Stalker" is a major omission. And for Buffy it would have been nice to have Drusilla included. However, there is still an interesting array of vampires in the book.

Vampires!
Tom Tierney's masterful artwork and a plethora of historical & pop culture vampires make this a must-have. Lots of notes and information are included on the back & front pages and 16 gorgeous plates of dolls and costumes. He includes the usual suspects (Vlad, Elizabeth Basthory) as well as some fascinating literary vamps (Lord Ruthven, Sir Francis Varney, Carmilla) and a variety from ancient civilizations (Sekmet, the Lamia, Camazotz) not to mention Blacula, Vampira, Nosferatu, & Gloria Holden as Dracula's Daughter. The base dolls are Lilith and Cain and can be changed by adding faceplates to become Barnabas Collins, Gary Oldman as Dracula or many more. There's a nod to contemporary film & TV vamps with Bill & Sookie from True Blood, the Twilight pair and of course, Buffy the Vampire Slayer with her two loves.

So much fun!
You can always count on Dover to produce great, fun paper doll sets. I don't cut them out, I collect the books. Never disappointed by anything I have purchased from them. This book covers vampires from earliest to ending with Edward Cullen/Pattison and Bill Compton/Stephen Moyer.

Great Book
As with all of Tierney's books the art is great and the attention to detail is amazing. I liked the bits of vampire folklore and historical facts that were placed in the book. My only complaint is that Lucien LaCroix and Nick Knight, the vampires from the 90s TV show Forever Knight were not featured in the book but other than that the book is another great example of Tierney's impeccable work.

Consigliato
